test(chromium-describe): inject Node into the page-eval harness (fix CI)
The vm/Proxy sandbox from the previous commit crashed vm.createContext on the CI
runner ("Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'prototype')") — a permissive
`has` trap doesn't survive Node's vm internals there. Revert to the original
`new Function` harness and instead inject `Node` (and `HTMLElement`) as explicit
params. This repo's page script never references `Node`, yet the CI runner threw
"Node is not defined" evaluating it (a stray DOM-global reference resolved against
Node.js's sparse global scope); binding `Node` to an injected stub makes that
identifier resolve regardless of host, which is a guaranteed fix for that exact
ReferenceError with none of the vm fragility.

test: make find + chromium-describe harnesses environment-independent (fix CI)
find.test.ts: also mock isAndroidTv, not just getAndroidRuntimeKind. The Android describe path (`describeAndroid`) calls the real isAndroidTv for a TV hint, which shells `adb`. Mocking only getAndroidRuntimeKind left isAndroidTv real, so the Android find tests passed only where adb is on PATH (a dev laptop / the CI Android image) and shelled adb otherwise. Mocking both keeps every Android path adb-free on any host. chromium-describe-value-extraction.test.ts: evaluate describeChromium's page-eval script in a `vm` sandbox instead of a bare `new Function`. A browser runs it against a complete `window` where every global resolves (to a value or undefined); `new Function` resolves free identifiers against Node's sparse global scope, so a stray DOM-global reference threw "Node is not defined" on the CI runner while passing locally. The sandbox's permissive `has` trap makes any un-provided global resolve to undefined (built-ins fall through to globalThis), matching browser semantics and removing the environment-dependent ReferenceError. Also drops the no-implied-eval disable (vm.runInContext isn't implied eval). Verified: full tool-server suite 1865 pass on macOS (node 24) and in a Linux node-20 container (matching CI, adb installed), isolated and full-suite. |

test: silence no-implied-eval on the chromium page-eval harness
The fake-DOM harness runs describeChromium's own page-eval expression via new Function against injected globals — an intentional, non-attacker-controlled use. eslint-disable-next-line keeps the branch's ESLint check green. |

fix(find): correct destructive fill, blind-read exists, and TV/probe edges
- fill now clears the enclosing editable region, not the demoted inner proxy, and parks the caret at the field's bottom-trailing corner — fixes the iOS search-bar "abcd" -> "WxyzAbcd" corruption and multi-line residue - editableTextLength prefers `value` when present so an empty field's placeholder label isn't backspaced (and can't trip a false cap warning) - exists reports presenceUnknown for any blind read (empty tree flagged with a hint/should_restart: tvOS, degraded AX, mid-restart), mirroring await-ui-element's isBlindRead — not just lastTree === null - TV acting-guard fails closed on an indeterminate Android form-factor probe; iOS left as-is (a physical iPhone legitimately probes undefined) - not-found note no longer mislabels a genuine miss as a fetch failure after a transient error poll - flow-add-step rejects an unmet await-ui-element (would halt every replay) - read-only find actions use describe's short auto-screenshot delay - clarify action-dependent `index` semantics in the zod help and runtime note; document fill's destructive clear in the tool description and SKILL Tests: enclosing-region fill, empty-field clear, blind-read exists, fail-closed probe, exists topmost-visible, run-sequence exclusion, unmet-wait recording, and auto-screenshot delay. tool-server 1865 pass, argent-mcp 68 pass. |

test(find): cover exists-replay, tvOS read-only, chromium value extraction; flag fill over-delete
- fill: extend the Chromium clear caveat to also warn about the over-delete direction (an inner block of a multi-block contenteditable can have its fixed-count backspaces run into the preceding block), so both under- and over-clear are surfaced instead of only leftover text. - flow-execute: assert a recorded `exists` find returning found:false does not stop the flow (replay side of the found:false exemption). - find: assert a read-only action on a tvOS target is not rejected and returns a valid absent answer carrying the tvOS hint (tvOS AX serves no focus tree, so it is found:false, unlike Android TV's real uiautomator tree). - describeChromium: run the real DOM walker against a faithful fake DOM to verify an <input> yields label=placeholder with empty value, and a contenteditable exposes only its direct text nodes. |

fix(find): harden fill clear, container/TV handling, and exists signals
Address code-review findings on the find tool: - H1: bias fill's focus tap to the field trailing edge so the leftward clear starts at end-of-text (not a mid-text caret), and rename the result field clearedChars -> backspacesSent (it counts backspaces sent, not chars proven removed). - M1: for tapping actions, demote a match whose frame encloses another so default index:0 lands on the inner input, not an aggregating Android container that folds the child's text into its content-desc. - M2: reject acting actions (tap/focus/type/fill) on a TV target up front (tvOS + Android TV) before any device effect, so fill can't throw on the first backspace or silently no-op; find is read-only on TV. - L1: exists reports the topmost visible match (not a zero-area ghost). - L2: exists sets presenceUnknown when the tree was unreadable, so a blind read isn't reported as a confirmed absence. - N1: poll-timeout note says "poll budget" for polling non-wait actions. - Docs (D1-D4): SKILL index/TV semantics, run-sequence exclusion rationale, sub-invoke caller list. - Tests (T1-T5): slow/hung/aborted fetch, poll-sleep clamp, tvOS probe once, type mid-settle abort, matchCount all-vs-visible, plus M1/M2. - T6: mock isTvOsSimulator/isAndroidTv in await-ui-element tests so the describe path stops shelling out per poll (the real flakiness root). fix(find): resolve remaining review notes + tvOS-probe integration
Addresses the outstanding review comments after the rebase onto main: - flow-run / flow-add-step docs now state that a `find` with action:"exists" is exempt from the found:false stop/skip rule (its found:false is a valid "not present" answer), matching isMissedFindResult. - `fill` on Chromium always sizes the clear from the cap: a contenteditable reports a non-empty but undercounted `value` (direct text nodes only), so the old `!value` guard under-cleared and left stale text. Caveat wording updated to cover both inputs and contenteditable. - A cancel that lands after the element was located and a device effect was dispatched (type/fill focus settle, or mid-clear) now reports found:true with an accurate note instead of "cancelled before the element was located". Integration with main: main's describeIos now probes isTvOsSimulator (shelling xcrun) per fetch. find now pre-resolves the tvOS verdict once before the wait clock and threads it through fetchDescribeTree — mirroring await-ui-element — so polling never re-shells xcrun per iteration. find tests stub isTvOsSimulator for determinism. docs(find): thread find through the skill guidance and flow semantics
- Reference find in the device-interact / RN-workflow / screenshot-diff /
test-ui-flow / setup skills and the argent rule as a locate-and-act tool.
- Clarify flow recording: flow-add-step records a step unless the tool throws,
so a non-throwing failure (find's { found: false }) is still recorded; do not
record find steps in v1 flows, and inspect each result before continuing.
- Note find's actionResult.timestampMs (tap/focus) for profiler annotations.

fix(find): bail a cancelled fill before typing when abort lands mid-clear
clearField stops early on abort but can't signal it; without this guard a fill cancelled during the backspace loop would still push `text` in and report a successful fill instead of returning cancelled(). Adds a deterministic test. |

fix(find): bound the fetch, robust center-tap clear, and review fixes
- Share the per-platform tree fetch (describe/fetch-tree.ts) and settleWithin (utils/timing.ts) with await-ui-element; bound find's poll/fetch by the deadline and abort signal so wait can't overshoot timeoutMs on a hung describe. - fill/type focus with a centre tap (empirically clears the field on iOS+Android) instead of a trailing-edge tap that could hit a field's clear button. - Platform-aware focus settle (Android 450ms / iOS 150ms / Chromium 0) so the first keystroke isn't dropped while the soft keyboard raises. - exists now folds degraded-AX hints into its not-found note; clamp the poll sleep; matchCount counts the actionable pool; action-aware ambiguity note; append (not overwrite) the password warning; honor abort after the focus tap; drop the redundant acted field and the duplicate get-attrs payload. - Add find to the device-interact skill + tapping rule; note why find is kept out of run-sequence; expand tests (degraded note, fetch error, action-phase abort, centre-tap, clear bounds, ambiguity note, focus, get-text label-only). |

feat(tool-server): add find tool to locate an element and optionally act on it
Combines discovery + action in one round-trip: locate a UI element by a locator (any/text/label/value/role/id) and optionally tap, focus, type, fill, check existence, wait for it, or read its text/attrs. Extracts the shared tree-matching primitives (root-excluding walk, reading-order sort, visibility proxy) into describe/match.ts, reused by both find and await-ui-element. |

chore: bump all workspace packages to 0.14.0 (#454)
Bumps every package under `packages/*` from 0.13.0 → 0.14.0 in lockstep. - All 14 workspace packages bumped to `0.14.0`. - `package-lock.json` regenerated to match (also picks up npm's `"peer": true` normalization). - `npm run check:versions` passes: *All workspace packages are at 0.14.0.* Internal deps use `file:../` references, so no dependency version specifiers needed changing. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code)v0.14.0 |

feat(argent-lens): argent lens — bind a claude session to the preview window (#416)
## What Adds `argent lens` — open Argent Lens bound to a fresh `claude` session. ## Why The Lens preview window and the agent communicate through a shared, process-wide tool-server that carries **no per-agent identity** (only a coarse telemetry header). So when the user requests changes in the window, there's no reliable way to route them to the *specific* agent that opened it. `argent lens` sidesteps the problem by inverting ownership: the human launches Lens, and Lens spawns (and therefore owns) exactly one `claude` terminal. The binding is 1:1 by construction — no identity plumbing required. ## How it works 1. `argent lens` ensures a tool-server and **begins a CLI Lens session**, which opens the preview window up front (no `await_user_selection` needed) and keeps it open across rounds. 2. It spawns a tracked `claude` terminal in the current directory — a TypeScript port of the macOS applet's `osascript` spawn/track mechanism — seeded to propose variants without blocking. 3. A watcher polls `GET /preview/outcome`; on each submitted round it types a one-line feedback summary into that terminal, queuing it to the agent as its next prompt. Requesting changes therefore "talks back" to the bound agent instead of closing the window. macOS only (drives Terminal/iTerm via `osascript`); off-darwin it exits with a clear message. ## Changes - **CLI** `lens-terminal.ts` — `osascript` spawn/track + a new write-into-running-session path (the "outputting" channel; injects input into the running TUI, which a tty write cannot do). - **CLI** `lens.ts` — the command + feedback formatter. - **tool-server** — a `cliSession` flag in the variant store (opens the window, suppresses auto-close on submit); `POST /preview/cli-session` and `GET /preview/outcome` routes. - **UI** — relabels the submit action to "Request changes" while a CLI session is active. Behind the existing `argent-lens` feature flag. ## Verification - Build + typecheck across the workspace; ESLint (`--max-warnings 0`) + Prettier clean. - 34 new unit tests; full `@argent/cli` suite **118 passing**, tool-server variant/preview suites **46 passing**. - **E2E (observed on this machine):** - **tool-server HTTP** — `cli-session` toggles `cliSession` true/false; submitted feedback round-trips through `/preview/outcome`. - **terminal injection** — spawned a window running `cat`, confirmed `writeToSession` lands text in the running program's **stdin** (both iTerm and Terminal), with embedded newlines flattened. - **full relay** — the real `watchAndRelay` loop against a real tool-server typed two distinct submission rounds' feedback into a stand-in agent terminal (dedup on `completedAt` verified). - `argent lens --help` and the feature-flag gate (exit 1 with guidance, no spawn). Note: a real end-to-end with a live `claude` agent was not run (it would drive a paid interactive session); the agent-facing channel is proven by injecting into a stand-in process's stdin via the exact same code path. --------- Co-authored-by: Filip131311 <contact@filipkaminski.com> |

fix(scripts): verify downloaded dylib Mach-O platforms (#450)
## What Adds a platform-verification gate to `scripts/download-native-binaries.sh`: after downloading the native binaries, assert every arch slice of each injection dylib has the expected Mach-O platform (iOS = `IOSSIMULATOR`, tvOS = `TVOSSIMULATOR`), and fail loudly otherwise. ## Why The script pulled the flat iOS `libArgentInjectionBootstrap.dylib` release asset on trust. When a mis-built release ships a **tvOS-platform** binary in that slot, `dyld` silently refuses the platform-mismatched `DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES` insert, so native-devtools never connects — every `native-*` tool returns `restart_required`, with **no error** at download, sign, or pack time. That is exactly what happened (the `argent-main` / `argent-v0.14.0` flat bootstrap asset was `TVOSSIMULATOR`). This guard runs on both paths that ingest the binaries — local `pack:mcp` (`pack-mcp.cjs`) and the publish CI (`publish.yml` / `publish-next.yml`) — so a bad upstream release can no longer be bundled into an npm publish silently. `vtool` is macOS-only, so the check is skipped on hosts without it (matching the existing `codesign` guard). Complements the producer-side fix in `argent-private` (`build-native-binaries`: build the tvOS dylibs outside `build/dylibs/` so the flatten can't collide, plus a platform gate). Verified: flags a `TVOSSIMULATOR` bootstrap, passes an `IOSSIMULATOR` one. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) |

ci: publish a "next" canary on every push to main (#423)
**Update after team discussion:** the open question from the original
version of this PR ("should we fire `next` on every push to main?") got
a yes, so this now does exactly that — continuous canary publishing from
`main`. Original tag-sync wiring is still here too. Branch is merged up
to current `main`.
### what it does
every push to main publishes a canary prerelease under the `next`
dist-tag, so `next` always tracks the tip of main.
- **"Publish prerelease to npm (next)"** now also triggers on `push:
branches: [main]`. on that path it derives a version, stamps it into
`packages/argent/package.json`, and publishes `--tag next`. the manual
`workflow_dispatch` path is untouched (gated behind `if:
github.event_name == 'workflow_dispatch'`).
- **version scheme** = `<patch-bump of the highest published
version>-next.<counter>`. a prerelease of the next patch still outranks
the current `latest` (so `next` lands above it) but stays under the
eventual stable. the **counter resets per base**: next index after the
highest `<base>-next.<k>` already on npm, or 0 if the base has no
canaries yet — so each patch line starts at `.0`:
```
0.13.1-next.0, 0.13.1-next.1, ... ← latest is 0.13.0
... 0.13.1 ships stable ...
0.13.2-next.0, 0.13.2-next.1, ... ← counter restarts
```
lives in `scripts/next-canary-version.mjs` (+ tests) as a pure function
of the published-versions list, reusing the semver helpers from the sync
script.
- **`argent -v` reports the right thing.** the CLI reads its version
from `package.json` at runtime, so stamping is enough — and there's an
in-pipeline step that runs the built `argent --version` and fails the
publish if it doesn't match the version about to ship. verified
end-to-end against the real registry: computed `0.13.1-next.0`, stamped,
built, `argent --version` → `0.13.1-next.0`.
- **collisions self-heal.** the counter is registry-derived, so canary
publishes are serialized (a `concurrency` group) to kill the concurrent
race; the publish step additionally retries a version-exists collision
(npm read-after-write lag on back-to-back runs) by recomputing. any
other publish failure still fails fast.
- canary builds pull the floating `argent-main` / `radon-main` signed
binaries. sync workflow still fires after every publish (self-heals
`next`, and still does the real work after a *stable* release).
### stuff to sanity-check before merge
- this publishes to npm on **every** merge to main — a lot of versions +
a full build/publish run each time. fine if that's the intent (it's the
whole point), just calling it out.
- **native binaries on the canary path are the floating `argent-main`
tag** — if radon's binary build lags a native-source change on main, a
canary can ship fresh JS against slightly-older signed
dylibs/ax-service/APK with no signal (the *missing* case fails loud +
safe; the *stale* case is silent). there's no per-commit signed-binary
build to pin against, so this is inherent to canary-from-main rather
than something this PR can fix — flagging it as the one real "preview
channel can be skewed" caveat.
- during a rapid burst of merges, GitHub's concurrency supersedes
intermediate queued runs — published `-next.N` stay contiguous from 0,
but not literally every commit in a burst gets its own canary.
- like any push trigger, it only goes live once this is on main.

feat: initial sim-remote support (#291)
## Summary
Adds **initial support for remote iOS simulators** ("sim-remote") —
simulators that run in the cloud (radon-cloud orchestrator) and are
driven from the dev's machine over a QUIC/MoQ tunnel, alongside the
existing local iOS simulators. A remote sim is exposed as a new device
platform, `ios-remote`, and the existing
interaction/inspection/profiling tools work against it through the same
tool surface.
To get there without scattering `isRemote` branches across every tool,
the iOS code paths are refactored behind a small set of
host/transport/backend abstractions so each tool stays
transport-agnostic.
## How it works
- **Discovery** — `list-devices` enumerates remote sims via the
`sim-remote` CLI in addition to local `simctl`. They classify as
`platform: "ios-remote"`. Enumeration is best-effort: if `sim-remote`
isn't installed or the user isn't logged in, it silently returns none.
- **Transport** — remote interaction goes over a MoQ relay
(WebTransport/QUIC). `moq-client.ts` subscribes to the server-published
`simulator` broadcast (catalog/video/screenshot) and publishes a
`control` track carrying protobuf-encoded input commands (touch / key /
button / rotate / wheel / screenshot). WebTransport is provided in Node
by `@fails-components/webtransport`, polyfilled lazily on first use.
- **Native devtools over the tunnel** — unix sockets don't bridge the
QUIC tunnel, so on remote sims `ax-service` and `native-devtools` are
forced onto TCP with OS-assigned ephemeral ports, and a reverse proxy is
wired before the in-sim daemon dials back.
## Key components
New (`packages/tool-server/src/`):
- `utils/sim-remote.ts` — thin wrapper around the `sim-remote` CLI
(simctl verbs, `moq-info`, proxy), propagating CLI stderr verbatim.
- `utils/moq-client.ts` — pure-JS MoQ client for the remote
simulator-server relay.
- `utils/datachannel-proto.ts` + `proto/datachannel.proto` — vendored
protobuf schema + encoders for the control channel.
- `utils/ios-host.ts` — `IosHost` abstraction (`localIosHost` /
`remoteIosHost`, picked by `pickIosHost(device)`) capturing the
local-vs-remote differences (transport, env setup, proxying,
`requiresTcp`).
- `utils/simctl-backend.ts` — strategy for simctl verbs so one iOS
handler serves both `xcrun simctl` (local) and `sim-remote simctl`
(remote).
- `utils/ax-prefs.ts` — AX-pref helpers extracted from `ax-service`.
-
`tools/{launch-app,open-url,reinstall-app,restart-app}/platforms/ios-remote.ts`
+ shared handlers.
Refactors:
- **Strategy pattern** to limit `isRemote`/platform branching inside
tool and blueprint implementations.
- `simulator-client.ts` gains a transport abstraction
(`SimulatorServerTransport`) so call sites stay transport-agnostic;
local sims back it with WebSocket+HTTP, remote sims with the MoQ client.
- `ax-service` / `native-devtools` blueprints updated for ephemeral TCP
ports and the `ios-remote` platform.
- Dependency checks: tools that pick a platform path internally now gate
on the right CLI (`sim-remote` vs `xcrun`).
## New dependencies
`@moq/lite`, `@moq/net`, `@fails-components/webtransport`,
`@fails-components/webtransport-transport-http3-quiche`, `protobufjs`.
## Testing
- Existing unit suite passes (CI green); the native-devtools
status/describe tests now stub the platform dep-check so they exercise
their logic, not the host toolchain.
- E2E device-smoke jobs (local iOS sim, Android, Chromium, remote VVD)
pass.
---
Branch rebased onto latest `main` (linear history). `sim-remote` is
opt-in — only required when driving a remote iOS simulator.

feat(tv): Apple TV (tvOS) and Android TV support (#374)
Adds end-to-end support for driving **Apple TV (tvOS)** and **Android TV (leanback)** targets through argent, using a focus-driven interaction model (TVs have no touchscreen — interaction is moving a focus highlight with the remote). This PR was reworked after review to **reuse the existing cross-platform tool surface and the `tv-remote` tool from the Vega/Fire TV work (#366)** rather than ship a separate family of `tv-*` tools. ## What this delivers TV targets are driven by the **same cross-platform tools as every other platform**, routed through the existing `dispatchByPlatform` fork mechanism — there are no dedicated `tv-describe`/`tv-navigate`/`tv-type`/`tv-set-focus` tools: - **`describe`** — on a `runtimeKind: "tv"` target, returns the focus-driven view (focused + focusable elements) instead of a tap tree. On Android TV it auto-falls-back to the full `uiautomator` tree when the RN focus engine exposes nothing. - **`tv-remote`** — the cross-platform remote/D-pad tool from #366, now extended with `ios` (Apple TV HID daemon) and `android` (Android TV adb keyevents) branches alongside the existing `vega` branch. Single button, a `repeat`, or a whole path (`["up","right","select"]`) in one call. - **`keyboard`** — types into the focused field on a TV target (named keys are rejected there — they're navigation, which belongs to `tv-remote`). - **`button`** stays hardware-only (phones/tablets); it is not a TV tool. **Apple TV** runs two native daemons (in-sim AX service + host-side HID daemon), shipped via the `argent-private` submodule. **Android TV** reuses the same tool surface, adb-backed (`input keyevent`, `uiautomator dump`, `input text`). ## Remote vocabulary parity `tv-remote` exposes the full 16-button vocabulary (`up`/`down`/`left`/`right`/`select`/`back`/`home`/`menu`/`playPause`/`rewind`/`fastForward`/`next`/`previous`/`volumeUp`/`volumeDown`/`mute`): | | Apple TV | Android TV | Vega | |---|---|---|---| | D-pad / select / back / menu / home / playPause | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | | media-transport + volume/mute | ❌ rejected | ✅ | ✅ | Media-transport/volume keys **genuinely work on Android TV** (real keycodes — verified live: `volumeUp` moved `STREAM_MUSIC`, `mute` toggled per `dumpsys audio`). On the **Apple TV simulator** they are **rejected with a clear error**: on-device testing confirmed the tvOS sim's HID stack silently drops Consumer-Control events, so returning success would be a lie. ## Key design points - **tvOS UDIDs are UUID-shaped and indistinguishable from iOS by shape.** Handled with `runtimeKind` detection (tvOS runtime string for Apple TV; `pm list features` leanback/television for Android TV — *not* `ro.build.characteristics`, which lies on TV emulators). - Converted launch-app / restart-app / screenshot / screenshot-diff / run-sequence from **eager** to **lazy** service resolution, so a tvOS target never spins up (and hangs on) the iOS-only simulator-server / native-devtools blueprints. - Native injection selects the platform-matched (TVOSSIMULATOR) dylib slice; daemons recycle across sim reboots and app relaunches so injection and focus survive. - SKILL.md footprint minimized per review: the two TV skills were collapsed into a single lean **`argent-tv-interact`** (~40 lines). ## Verification - `npm run build`, ESLint, Prettier, and the full tool-server suite (**1565 tests**) all pass; CI green (incl. the Apple TV / Android TV / Vega e2e jobs). - Core flows verified live against real apps on both an Apple TV 4K simulator and a Google ATV emulator. ## Dependency / merge order Pins the `argent-private` submodule to the tip of its `feat/tv-support` branch (software-mansion/argent-private#20). **Merge that PR to `main` first, then bump the submodule pointer here to the merged SHA before merging this PR.** 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(tool-server): stop list-devices from hanging - wedged-VVD stall and CLI socket leak (#419)
## Summary
`list-devices` (an `alwaysLoad` tool called at session start and
frequently after)
could appear to **hang**. Investigation found **two independent
causes**, both fixed here:
1. **Server-side (Vega):** a wedged Vega VVD turned `list-devices` into
a ~40s stall
and leaked `vega` CLI subprocesses.
2. **Client-side (CLI):** every `argent run …` lingered a constant **~6s
after it had
already printed its result**, because a health-check `fetch` never
drained its
response body and kept an undici keep-alive socket ref'd until the
server closed it.
Net effect for `argent run list-devices`: **6.15s → 0.91s**, and the
worst-case
wedged-VVD stall drops from ~40s to a bounded short call.
---
## Problem 1 — wedged Vega VVD stalls `list-devices` (~40s) and leaks
processes
On a host with the Vega SDK installed and a **running-but-unresponsive
VVD**,
`list-devices`' Vega discovery path made **two serial 20s CLI calls**
that both hung:
- `vega device list` → SIGKILL at 20s
- then (recovery) `vega device info` → SIGKILL at another 20s → **~40s
total**
Three compounding defects:
- `execFileAsync` resolves on stdio **close**, not child **exit**. The
`vega` launcher
forks a `python3 → node → vda` worker tree; an orphaned worker holds the
stdout pipe
open, so the call stayed pending for the full timeout even after the
launcher was
killed.
- The `device info` recovery fired even when `device list` had **hung**,
doubling the
cost and spawning a second hanging subprocess.
- On timeout we killed only the **direct child**, so the `python3 → node
→ vda` worker
tree was **orphaned, not reaped** — leaking a process tree per call (a
wedged host had
accumulated ~269 of them).
### Fix
- **`runVega` (`vega-cli.ts`):** switched from `execFileAsync` to
`spawn` with
**`detached: true`**, making the launcher its own **process-group
leader**, and on
timeout SIGKILL the **whole process group** (`process.kill(-pid)`) —
which reaps the
entire `python3 → node → vda` tree, **not just the launcher**. We also
destroy our
stdio stream ends so a pipe-holding worker can't keep the call pending.
(`execFile`
silently drops `detached`, which is why the switch to `spawn` was
required.)
- **Success path doesn't depend on stdio EOF either:** we prefer `close`
(fully
drained), but if a grandchild holds the stdout pipe open after a **clean
exit**, we
fall back to `exit` + a short (~1s) drain grace and resolve with the
captured
output — so a finished call can't be stalled into the timeout and then
rejected,
discarding valid data. The output cap is measured in real UTF-8 bytes.
For that
guarantee to hold at the boundary, the `exit` handler **disarms the main
timeout
timer**: once the child has terminated the wall-clock deadline is moot,
so a clean
exit landing within the drain grace of the deadline resolves with its
output instead
of being mis-rejected as a `timeout` (which would also wrongly suppress
the
`listVegaDevices` recovery for a still-running VVD).
- **Belt-and-suspenders for a worker that escapes the group:** an
earlier
investigation reported the worker tree `setsid()`-ing into its own
session (which
would defeat a group-only SIGKILL). To be safe regardless of which is
true, on
timeout we **snapshot the launcher's descendants from the process table
*before*
killing** (a setsid'd worker keeps its `ppid` pointing at the launcher
until the
launcher dies, so a `ppid` tree-walk still reaches it) and SIGKILL those
pids
individually after the group kill. The snapshot is **precise** — only
this
launcher's own descendants, by pid, so a concurrent `vega` call's
workers are never
touched — and bounded, and the group kill runs regardless of whether it
succeeds.
- A real-subprocess test confirms **0 orphans** after a timeout,
including a worker
deliberately spawned into its **own** process group (so the group kill
alone cannot
reach it — the test fails without the descendant sweep).
- **`listVegaDevices` (`vega-devices.ts`):** skip the `device info`
recovery only when
`device list` **timed out** (a wedged agent — keyed off the failure's
`error_kind: "timeout"`), so a hung list no longer pays for a second
timeout wait. A
*fast* (non-timeout) list failure still recovers a genuinely-running VVD
rather than
mis-reporting it as stopped. Tightened discovery timeouts (20s → 6s/4s —
a generous
multiple of the ~1s healthy time so a cold-start `vega` launcher isn't
spuriously
timed out, with their sum (10s) kept under the 15s branch deadline with
margin).
- **`list-devices.ts`:** added a 15s `withDeadline` backstop around the
Android and Vega
branches so no single branch can stall the whole fan-out (returns
partial results +
logs a note). Sized to sit ~5s above the Vega branch's ~10s worst case,
so the
backstop never truncates a slow-but-completing branch (which would drop
a real
device); an invariant test guards that ordering.
- **`readAvdName` (`adb.ts`):** run the two `getprop` probes
concurrently so a wedged
emulator costs 5s, not 10s.
---
## Problem 2 — `argent run` hangs ~6s after printing output (CLI socket
leak)
Independent of Vega. The tool-server returns `list-devices` in <1s, but
the CLI process
took a **constant ~6s** to exit. Any path that calls `process.exit()`
was instant; any
path that returned naturally (`argent run …`, `argent run … --help`,
`argent tools`)
lingered ~6s.
**Root cause:** `isToolsServerHealthy` (`launcher.ts`) did
`const res = await fetch('/tools'); return res.ok;` and **never drained
the body**.
`/tools` is a large (~112KB) payload, so undici keeps the keep-alive
socket **ref'd**
until the tool-server's idle `keepAliveTimeout` (~5s) closes it.
`ensureToolsServer`
runs this health check on every invocation, and `run()`'s success path
has no
`process.exit(0)`, so the ref'd socket holds the event loop open.
(Confirmed
telemetry-independent — `DO_NOT_TRACK` made no difference.) The same
undrained-body
pattern existed in `link.ts` (`argent link`).
### Fix
Drain the response body before returning in both health-check-style
fetches:
```ts
await res.body?.cancel().catch(() => {});
return res.ok;
```
(`fetchTools`/`callTool` were already fine — they `await res.json()`.)
---
## Testing
**Empirical, end-to-end** (on a machine reproducing the wedged VVD):
| Command | Before | After |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `argent run list-devices` | 6.15s | **0.91s** |
| `argent run list-devices --help` | 6.14s | **0.16s** |
| `argent tools` | 6.15s | **0.16s** |
| handle probe after run | 2 sockets ref'd for ~6s | **none — immediate
exit** |
- Raw `POST /tools/list-devices` was ~0.7s throughout — confirming the
~5.4s was pure
CLI teardown, not tool work.
- **Process-group reap proven empirically:** the live `vega → bash →
python3 → node`
tree all shares the detached launcher's PGID; a group-SIGKILL left **0
survivors**.
A real-subprocess test (unmocked `runVega` vs. a fake hanging `vega` on
`PATH`) confirms
it settles at its deadline **and** leaves **0 orphaned processes**.
**Automated:**
- `vega-cli-timeout.test.ts` (real-subprocess test) — `runVega` rejects
on its deadline,
**reaps the entire worker tree (0 orphans)** — the fake's hung worker is
spawned into its
**own** process group, so the test fails without the descendant sweep —
and returns
normally when the CLI responds. Also covers the boundary case: a **clean
exit whose
drain grace outlasts the deadline** resolves with its captured output
rather than being
rejected as a `timeout` (guards the `exit`-handler timer disarm above).
- `vega-adb-connect-recovery.test.ts` — a *timed-out* `device list` does
not trigger a
second `device info` call (no stacking); a *fast, non-timeout* failure
**still** recovers
a running VVD.
- `list-devices-deadline.test.ts` — `withDeadline` returns the branch
value on the happy
path and the fallback (with a logged note) when a branch exceeds the
deadline.
- `list-devices.test.ts` — added a `spawn` mock (vega moved off
`execFile`).
- `launcher-helpers.test.ts` — `isToolsServerHealthy` cancels (drains)
its response body.
- Suites green: **tool-server (1610), argent-tools-client (109),
argent-cli (84)**.
- eslint (`--max-warnings 0`), prettier, and `tsc` clean.

fix(tool-server): prevent duplicate tool-servers after an nvm node switch (#385)
## Problem Switching Node versions with **nvm** can leave **two (or more) `tool-server` processes alive at once** while `~/.argent/tool-server.json` tracks only one. The extra servers are orphaned (untracked, on leaked ports) until their 30‑minute idle timeout. This was reproduced live: a machine had **three** `node …/dist/tool-server.cjs start` processes running, all spawned within the same minute, with state tracking only the last one. ## Root cause `@argent/tools-client` `ensureToolsServer()` ran a non-atomic `read state → check alive+healthy → clearState → spawn → writeState` sequence with: 1. **No cross-process serialization.** An nvm switch relaunches `argent mcp` under the new Node while the *previous* MCP's 30s health monitor reconnects — several launchers run `ensureToolsServer()` at nearly the same time, all observe "no healthy server", and each spawns its own **detached** server on a fresh free port. Last‑writer‑wins on the state file orphans the rest. 2. **No kill-before-respawn.** When the tracked server was alive but unhealthy, the old code just `clearState()`d and spawned a new one, leaving the old detached process running untracked. ## Fix (`packages/argent-tools-client/src/launcher.ts`) - **O_EXCL spawn lock** (`~/.argent/tool-server.lock`) serialises the spawn decision across processes: per-acquisition nonce, stale‑steal (dead holder / aged lock), bounded wait, and a hot‑spin‑proof reclaim loop. Inside the lock, `ensureToolsServer` **double‑checks** for a peer‑spawned healthy server before spawning, so a burst of concurrent launches collapses to a single server. - **Kill-before-respawn** terminates a wedged server we own before spawning its replacement, with three guards so it can never signal the wrong process: - `managed === "autospawn"` — a user's `argent server start` server is now tagged `managed: "cli"` and is **never** killed by the auto‑spawn path; - a **structural** `node <bundlePath> start` command-line identity match (not a bare substring); - a re-check of that identity immediately before each signal (covers PID reuse across the SIGTERM grace window). - **`spawnToolsServer` reaps its detached child on every reject path**, so a readiness timeout can no longer leak a child that binds its port moments later as an untracked second server. The lock-free fast path (reuse a healthy tracked server) is unchanged, so steady‑state behaviour and latency are unaffected; the lock is only taken when a spawn is actually needed. ## Tests New `packages/argent-tools-client/test/launcher-duplicate-spawn.test.ts`: - a 5× concurrent launch burst collapses to **one** server; - an alive‑but‑unhealthy `autospawn` server is terminated (not orphaned) on respawn; - a recycled pid whose command line doesn't match is **never** signalled; - a `managed: "cli"` server is left alive instead of being killed; - a readiness timeout reaps the spawned child (no orphan). Each case was verified to **fail against the pre-fix code** and pass with the fix. Existing `launcher-spawn` / `launcher-state` suites are unchanged and green. > Note: the `@swmansion/argent` `dispatcher › forwards SIGTERM to the child binary` unit test is a pre-existing flake (alternates pass/fail independent of this change, which doesn't touch that package). 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-authored-by: Radoniusz Cloudiusz <radoniusz@radoniusz.local> Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(argent-lens): cache device-list validation in the preview routes (#417)
## Problem `argent lens` (and the `await_user_selection` preview flow) spams the `list-devices` tool. While variants are on screen the preview UI polls `GET /preview/describe/:udid` ~3×/s to keep each floating variant bubble anchored to its element's on-screen frame. `argent lens` keeps that window open across rounds, so the poll never stops. Both `/preview/describe/:udid` and `/preview/simulator-server/:udid` validate the requested `:udid` against the live device list before dispatching — a deliberate guard so these auth-exempt routes can't amplify forged ids into unbounded subprocess spawns. But they did that validation by invoking the `list-devices` tool **on every request**, and `list-devices` shells out to `xcrun simctl list`, `adb devices`, `ps`, and probes Chromium CDP ports. So a steady ~3 describe polls/sec became a continuous storm of `xcrun`/`adb`/`ps` spawns. This is a pre-existing bug on `main` (the describe route's per-request validation predates the Lens CLI session); `argent lens` (#416) just makes it constant by holding the window open. ## Fix Cache the validated device-id set inside `createPreviewRouter` for a short (5s) window: - The describe/simulator-server validation now reads from the cache; `list-devices` runs at most ~once per window instead of per request. - `GET /preview/simulators` primes the cache as a side effect of building its device dropdown, so the connect (`/simulator-server/:udid`) that immediately follows — and the describe poll loop after it — ride a warm, correct set. - Validation semantics are unchanged (iOS keyed by `udid`, every other platform by `serial`, mirroring the original `.some()` guard exactly). The DoS guard is *tightened*, not weakened: a flood of forged ids now shares a single refresh rather than triggering one `list-devices` spawn each. A device that appears/disappears is reflected within the 5s TTL (and immediately via `/simulators`). ## Verification - Added regression tests in `preview-describe-route.test.ts` that count `list-devices` invocations via the real router (supertest). **Reproduced before/after**: against the original code 5 describe polls → 5 `list-devices` calls, 3 connects → 3, 4 forged ids → 4; with the fix each collapses to **1**. The TTL test confirms a refresh after staleness. - `packages/tool-server` full suite: **1521 tests pass**. - `tsc --build`, `eslint`, and `prettier --check` all clean on the changed files. |

ci: device E2E smoke tests for every hosted-CI platform (#371)
## What `wayland-e2e.yml` boots an Android AVD on Linux under headless Weston and asserts the full pipeline works without a display. It guards exactly one cell of the support matrix. This adds the same boot→screenshot→gesture-tap smoke test for every other (target × host) cell that can run on GitHub-hosted runners. | target | host | job | status | |---|---|---|---| | Android emulator | Linux (KVM) | `wayland-e2e.yml` (existing) | ✅ | | iOS simulator | macOS | `ios-sim-macos` | ✅ | | Chromium / Electron | Linux (Xvfb) | `chromium-linux` | ✅ | | Chromium / Electron | macOS | `chromium-macos` | ✅ | ## How - **`scripts/e2e/drive-device.sh`** — shared driver. Boots one device through the tool-server, then asserts `booted:true` → screenshot has real (non-blank) pixels → `gesture-tap` round-trips. Every tool takes the device id as `udid` and screenshots come back as the same `data.image.hostPath` envelope on all platforms, so the body is uniform; each job just supplies the cell-specific boot JSON + device id. - **`packages/tool-server/test/fixtures/electron-smoke-app/`** — minimal self-contained Electron app the Chromium jobs point `electronAppPath` at. It vendors its own electron via its own lockfile (kept out of the repo root lockfile); CI `npm ci`s it so `boot-electron` resolves `./node_modules/.bin/electron`. - **`.github/workflows/e2e-device-smoke.yml`** — three jobs, `workflow_dispatch` + path-filtered `pull_request`. iOS downloads the darwin native binaries (injection must succeed for `bootIos` to report `booted:true`); Chromium-Linux runs under Xvfb with `--no-sandbox`. The tool-server is started with `TS_NODE_TRANSPILE_ONLY=1` so cold ts-node startup doesn't flakily exceed the readiness poll on loaded macOS runners (types are still enforced by the typecheck job). ## Known gaps (supported on real machines, not runnable on hosted runners) - **Android emulator on macOS** — the arm64 emulator needs HVF (`-enable-hvf`), but hosted macOS runners are themselves VMs with no nested virtualization. Confirmed by running it: qemu dies with `HVF error: HV_UNSUPPORTED` ~18s into boot, regardless of GPU mode or RAM. The Android boot/screenshot/tap path is already regression-guarded on Linux via KVM (`wayland-e2e.yml`), so macOS adds no runnable coverage. - **Physical devices** — real iOS (CoreDevice HID) and real Android (adb-USB) have no attached hardware on hosted runners. Both would need self-hosted runners (a Mac exposing HVF / wired-up devices). Documented in the workflow header. ## Verification - All checks green: the 3 device jobs + ESLint + Prettier + Unit tests. - Locally (before CI): ran `drive-device.sh` end-to-end against a real tool-server → boot `booted:true`, screenshot **142 KB** (floor 20 KB), tap `tapped:true`, exit 0; and confirmed via the Argent stack that a tap at (0.5, 0.5) lands on the fixture's centered button and increments its counter. |

fix(debugger): stop unmatched device_id silently collapsing onto one device (#397)
## Problem Opening debugger sessions with **different** `device_id`s could all resolve to the **same** physical device. `selectTarget` filters Metro's `/json/list` CDP targets by `reactNative.logicalDeviceId === device_id`, but when the provided `device_id` matched **no** target it kept *all* candidates and fell through to the first/priority target: ```ts const filtered = candidates.filter((t) => t.reactNative?.logicalDeviceId === options.deviceId); if (filtered.length) candidates = filtered; // unmatched id → silently ignored ``` This silently no-ops surprisingly often: Metro's `logicalDeviceId` is an internal hash, **not** the iOS simulator UDID. Verified live against a real device: - simulator UDID: `6DBF83B4-F341-4F8D-B48D-CD8FF312CCFB` - Metro `logicalDeviceId`: `a1956f6bd1e3a3ac3dbb505e24d79687a5ea60b1` With one device the fallback is harmless (it picks the only device). With **several** devices on one Metro, every unmatched `device_id` collapses onto whichever device Metro lists first — so two debugger sessions opened with different `device_id`s drive the same device. ## Fix In `selectTarget`, only fall back to the priority target when there is **at most one distinct device** to fall back to. When multiple distinct devices are connected and the `device_id` matches none, throw an error that lists the valid `logicalDeviceId`s so the caller can re-target instead of being silently misrouted. The single-device convenience path (pass any id — including a UDID — and get the one connected device) is preserved. ## Verification - `selectTarget` unit tests: distinct ids → distinct devices; ambiguous unmatched id throws and surfaces the valid ids; single-device and no-`logicalDeviceId` fallbacks still work. - Full-stack multi-device test driving `Registry → JsRuntimeDebugger → debugger-connect` against a two-device mock Metro: distinct `device_id`s route to distinct devices; unmatched id is rejected. - Full `tool-server` suite: **1203 passed**. - Confirmed the real contract on a live iOS sim: `debugger-connect` with the UDID still connects (single-device fallback) and returns `logicalDeviceId a1956f…`. ## Notes The three RN-only debugger tools (`debugger-component-tree`, `debugger-inspect-element`, `debugger-reload-metro`) build their Metro service ref via a raw template literal instead of `debuggerServiceRef()`. For the Metro path the resulting URN is byte-identical, so it's not part of this bug; left untouched to keep the fix scoped. |

fix(vega): stop a VVD the vega CLI lost track of via the ps probe (#402)
## Problem
`vega virtual-device stop` exits non-zero with **"virtual device not
running"** for any VVD the `vega` CLI is not tracking — and that is
**every VVD argent boots**. `boot-device` starts a VVD via `vega
virtual-device start -t N`, which returns once boot completes (rather
than staying foreground), so the CLI never registers the device. `vega
virtual-device status` then reports `running:false` and `stop` is a
no-op-that-throws.
That error threw straight out of `stopVvd`, so **`boot-device
{force:true}` failed outright and left the VVD running** — even though
argent's *detection* (`isVvdRunning` / `listRunningVvdConsolePorts`)
already deliberately trusts the OS process table over the flaky CLI.
Repro (against a VVD argent booted):
```
boot-device {vvdImage:"tv", force:true}
→ [Tool:boot-device] vega virtual-device stop failed: virtual device not running
at stopVvd (vega-vvd.ts) → bootVegaImpl (boot-device.ts)
```
## Fix
Make **stop** symmetric with **detection**:
- Tolerate the CLI's stale failure (`vega virtual-device stop` is now
best-effort).
- Terminate any VVD emulator process the `ps` probe still finds —
SIGTERM, then SIGKILL the stragglers, verifying via `isVvdRunning`
between.
- Killing by pid demands a **positive** emulator identity — the VVD
binary name **and** a `-ports`/`-qmp` signal — so a process that merely
mentions a `…/vega-virtual-device` path in its argv (e.g. a git command
on a branch of that name) is never signalled.
Also stopped pointing users at `vega virtual-device stop` for an
argent-booted VVD (the boot-device error message + the `argent-vega`
skill); the reliable restart is `boot-device {force:true}`.
## Verification
- `npx vitest run --root packages/tool-server` → **1430 passed**. New
unit tests cover `parseVvdPids` (identity/safety incl. the git-ref
guard) and `stopVvd` (no-kill on clean stop; kill-without-rethrow when
the CLI refuses; SIGTERM→SIGKILL escalation).
- **Live on a VVD**: reproduced the orphan state (argent boot →
`status:false` while pid alive), then `boot-device force:true` — old pid
gone, a fresh single VVD running, `booted:true`. Previously it threw.

feat(telemetry): detect cloud/remote AI-agent environment and tag every event (#418)
## What
Adds a **`cloud_agent`** field to the base telemetry props — alongside
`is_ci` — naming the **cloud/remote AI coding-agent environment** the
process is running in, or `null`. Since it lives in the base props, it's
attached to **every** telemetry event automatically.
Crucially this is **cloud-only**: it fires for vendor-hosted / remote
autonomous runs, **not** for a developer running an agent CLI locally. A
laptop `cursor-agent`/`claude` session returns `null`; only a genuine
remote environment resolves to a slug. (Generic cloud/CI execution stays
`is_ci`; this names the specific agent.)
## How
- **New `packages/telemetry/src/cloud-agent-detect.ts`** —
`detectCloudAgent(env?)` returns a canonical slug or `null`. Modelled on
`ci-detect.ts`: takes `env` lazily for tests, runs nothing at import
time, and only ever emits a fixed allowlist slug — a raw env value is
never copied into telemetry.
- **`base-props.ts`** — adds `cloud_agent: CloudAgent | null` next to
`is_ci`, computed once in the memoized invariant block (no per-event
cost in the long-lived tool-server).
## Signals (only high-confidence remote markers; local CLI use → `null`)
| Slug | Cloud marker | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| `claude_code` | `CLAUDE_CODE_ENVIRONMENT_KIND ∈ {byoc,
anthropic_cloud}`, a `remote_*`/`claude-in-teams` entrypoint, or
`CLAUDE_CODE_REMOTE_SESSION_ID` | Verified against the Claude Code
binary's own internal cloud check |
| `cursor` | `CURSOR_AGENT_WORKER_ID` / `CURSOR_WORKER_POOL_NAME`
(worker/pool exec) | Verified `cursor-agent` reads it from env; the
local CLI sets `CURSOR_AGENT` + `CURSOR_AGENT_CLI_LOCAL_MODE` instead |
| `copilot` | `GITHUB_ACTIONS` + `copilot-swe-agent` actor/workflow |
Confirmed actor identity (also `is_ci`) |
| `replit` | `REPLIT_AGENT` | Agent-specific (the broad `REPL_ID` fires
in any Repl and is **not** used) |
| `devin` | `/opt/.devin` VM marker | Confirmed (`@vercel/detect-agent`)
|
| `jules` | `/opt/environment_summary.sh` VM marker | Confirmed
(official Jules docs) |
### Deliberately excluded
- **Codex cloud** — no reliable cloud-specific marker exists
(`CODEX_SANDBOX` is the *local* sandbox signal; OpenAI declined an
`AGENT=codex` flag in `openai/codex#13416`). Not detected rather than
guessed.
- **Local agent CLIs** — `CURSOR_AGENT`, `CLAUDECODE` with
`entrypoint=cli`, plain `REPL_ID` workspaces: intentionally `null`.
## Privacy
Reads only a fixed allowlist of env-var **names** plus two filesystem
markers (`/opt/.devin`, `/opt/environment_summary.sh`); emits only a
fixed slug. The filesystem checks are injectable and guarded so a
permission error can never break telemetry.
## Tests
- New `test/cloud-agent-detect.test.ts` — every vendor signal, plus the
key **negatives** (local Claude `entrypoint=cli`, local `cursor-agent`,
plain Repl `REPL_ID`, normal CI run) asserting `null`.
- Updated `test/base-props.test.ts` for the renamed key.
- Full telemetry suite **191 passing**, typecheck + build clean. Live
check confirms this local Claude Code session resolves to `null` while a
simulated `byoc`/remote env resolves to `claude_code`.
---
> Scope note: started as a broad "is an agent in the loop" flag
(`agent_env`); narrowed to cloud-only per review — a human using an
agent locally shouldn't look like a cloud run.

fix(profiler): keep all same-named components and surface platform variants (#368)
## Problem The AST component index (`buildAstIndexWithDiagnostics`) is keyed by component **name**. When two files define a component with the same name — most commonly platform variants, e.g. `List` in `List.tsx` and `List` in `List.web.tsx` — the index kept whichever file the directory walk happened to reach **first** (`if (!index.has(name))`) and threw the rest away. So a lookup for `List` could return the wrong platform variant's source, with no signal that other matches even existed. And because it depended on filesystem walk order, *which* `List` survived was effectively arbitrary. Raised in review on #287. ## Fix - **Collect every match per name** instead of keeping the first walked. - **Choose a deterministic primary**: base files are preferred over `.web` / `.ios` / `.android` / `.native` variants (those only override the base when bundling for that platform), then ties break on path → line → column. The result no longer depends on directory-walk order. - **Surface the rest** as `otherMatches` on the index entry. `react-profiler-component-source` now returns `otherMatches: [{ file, line, col }]` alongside the primary, so a caller asking for `List` can tell the locations apart instead of trusting a single arbitrary file. `react-profiler-analyze` needs no change — it enriches findings with the (now deterministic) primary location, which is strictly better than before; surfacing per-finding alternates there is out of scope. ## Tests `packages/tool-server/test/react-profiler/ast-index.test.ts` (index layer) and a new `component-source-duplicates.test.ts` (end-to-end through the tool's `execute`): - same name in `List.tsx` + `List.web.tsx` → primary is the base file, its source is returned, `List.web.tsx` is under `otherMatches`; - only platform variants (`.android` + `.ios`, no base) → deterministic primary by path; - uniquely-named component → no `otherMatches`. The two collision assertions fail on pre-fix code (no `otherMatches`, arbitrary primary) and pass with the fix. Verified locally with Node 20: `vitest run test/react-profiler/` — 80 passed; `tsc --build` clean; prettier + eslint clean. |

fix(tool-server): authenticate Chromium-control WebSocket upgrades (#411)
## Problem
The per-device Chromium control WebSocket (`/chromium-server/<id>/ws`)
accepted **any** upgrade handshake. The `ws` library owns the HTTP
`upgrade` event, so neither protection that guards every HTTP route ran
on it — the **Host-header guard** (DNS-rebinding defense) and the
**Bearer-token auth gate** are both registered as Express
`request`-event middleware and never fire on an `upgrade`.
That channel dispatches `touch` / `key` / `button` / `wheel` / `rotate`
/ `clipboardSync` straight onto the live `ChromiumServer`. So while a
Chromium/Electron session is warm (the normal state when an agent is
driving one), **any web page the operator visits could connect
cross-origin and inject synthetic input**:
```js
new WebSocket("ws://127.0.0.1:<port>/chromium-server/chromium-cdp-9222/ws")
.onopen = e => e.target.send(JSON.stringify({ cmd: "key", direction: "Down", text: "…" }));
```
WebSocket handshakes aren't subject to the Same-Origin Policy and no
`Origin` was checked — cross-site WebSocket hijacking (CSWSH). An
attacker can't bootstrap a session (that still needs the authenticated
REST path), only ride one already open.
## Fix
The browser-loaded preview UI is the legitimate consumer and **can't set
an `Authorization` header on a WebSocket** — which is why the whole
`/preview` surface is intentionally token-exempt. So this mirrors the
existing **origin/host-based** defense rather than adding token auth,
applied in the upgrade handler:
- **Host guard** — reuse the same loopback/bind-host allow-list the HTTP
requests use, closing the DNS-rebinding bypass on the upgrade path.
- **Origin guard** — browsers always send `Origin` on a WS handshake;
accept only our own loopback/bind-host origin. A non-browser client
(Node `ws`) sends no `Origin` and is still constrained by the Host
guard. Opaque / `null` origins are rejected.
A wildcard bind (`--host 0.0.0.0`) disables the guard, matching the
existing HTTP Host-guard behavior. The check runs before
`resolveServer`, so a cross-origin probe can't even learn whether a
device exists. The legitimate same-origin preview UI and Node clients
are unaffected.
## Tests
New `chromium-ws-upgrade-auth.test.ts`:
- unit-tests `isWebsocketUpgradeAllowed` across loopback / localhost /
`::1`, no-Origin (Node client), cross-origin (rejected), `null` origin,
DNS-rebinding Host, missing Host, explicit bind host, and
wildcard-disabled;
- wiring-tests that `attachChromiumServerWebsocket` destroys the socket
and never reaches `resolveServer` on a cross-origin upgrade, and passes
an allowed one through.
Verified locally on `origin/main`: `tsc --build` clean, full tool-server
suite **1573 passing**, `typecheck:tests` clean, ESLint clean, Prettier
clean.

fix(argent-lens): native window controls, comment cursor, card layout polish (#409)
Part 1 out of N reworks for Argent Lens Polish pass on the Argent Lens preview window. ## Changes - **Native window controls.** `titleBarStyle: "hidden"` (+ `setWindowButtonVisibility`) shows the real macOS traffic lights on the transparent window instead of the handcrafted close button. `trafficLightPosition` insets them to share the corner panels' 14px padding. - **Comment-mode cursor.** Entering comment mode swaps the crosshair for a Figma-style speech-bubble cursor over the stream, so "you are placing a comment" is unmistakable. Defined as a `--cursor-comment` data-URI token in `theme.css`. - **Bottom toolbelt.** The "Add comment" button moved out of the top-right cluster into a new bottom-centre floating toolbelt — the seed of a Figma-style bottom tool tab. Same button look, placement only. - **Cards show all variants.** Two fixes so short cards no longer clip a variant: the left column is no longer height-limited by the bottom-right footbar (per-column bound), and tighter variant-row padding lets a 2-variant card fit its column. - **Cards repel / never overlap.** A deterministic per-poll de-overlap of the spring **home** targets (a stable top-down sweep), not a per-frame force. The damped springs glide to non-overlapping rests: no micro-jitter, no rubber-banding, and a card wedged between two settles instead of wiggling forever. - **App named "Argent Lens".** The window title was already set, but the macOS menu bar / Cmd-Tab / Dock showed "Electron" (the unpackaged `Electron.app` bundle's `CFBundleName`, which `app.setName` can't override). On macOS the tool-server now launches the window through a thin **wrapper `.app`** whose `Info.plist` `CFBundleName` is "Argent Lens" — it symlinks Electron's Frameworks/Resources (no ~270MB copy) and is launched with `--no-sandbox` (the modified/symlinked bundle no longer matches the signed Helper apps). Acceptable for this window: it only loads the tool-server's localhost UI, and the renderer keeps `contextIsolation` + `sandbox:true`. Falls back to plain Electron on non-macOS or any failure. ## Verification Driven live against the iOS simulator via a dev tool-server + the Electron window over CDP: - Native traffic lights render on the transparent window; handcrafted close button removed. - Comment-mode `.stage img` computed cursor is the speech-bubble data-URI. - "Add comment" is in `#float-toolbelt`, horizontally centred at the window mid-line, 14px above the bottom. - All demo cards report `bodyScrollHeight === clientHeight` (zero clip); both variants visible. - 5- and 9-card layouts: zero overlaps, positions identical across 2s (no jitter), and pinning a card between two settles with no overlap and no wiggle. - Menu bar / Cmd-Tab read "Argent Lens"; `ps` confirms the window launches via `…/argent-lens-app/Argent Lens.app/Contents/MacOS/Electron --no-sandbox`. - `tsc --build`, `eslint`, `prettier --check`, and the preview/variant test files all pass. |

fix(debugger): return object/array results from debugger-evaluate (#365)
## Problem `debugger-evaluate` silently returns nothing for any expression that evaluates to an object or array. `CDPClient.evaluate` calls `Runtime.evaluate` without `returnByValue`, so a non-primitive result comes back as a RemoteObject reference with no `value` field, and the tool drops it (only primitives/strings came through). ## Fix Pass `returnByValue` + `awaitPromise` (default on) so objects/arrays serialize by value and promise-returning expressions resolve to their value. `evaluateWithBinding` opts both off to keep its fire-and-forget binding path unchanged (it delivers its payload via a side binding, not the evaluate return). ## Verification - New cdp-client unit tests assert `evaluate` sends `returnByValue:true` + `awaitPromise:true` and returns an object result, and that `evaluateWithBinding` sends both `false`. - Full cdp-client + reconnect suites pass; 1254 tool-server tests pass; eslint + prettier clean. - The real-Hermes `returnByValue` path is already exercised in production by `react-profiler-fiber-tree` / `react-profiler-renders`. |

refactor: replace hand-rolled parsers with standard packages (#373)
## What & why
Swept the repo for hand-rolled regex/string parsers that reimplement a
solved problem, and replaced the genuinely fragile ones with
battle-tested packages (or deps already in the tree). Each swap is
paired with a regression test for an input the old code got wrong.
| Site | Was | Now |
|------|-----|-----|
| `adb.ts` `resolveAvdPath`, `linux-preflight.ts` `readMb` | per-key
anchored regex over AVD `.ini` / `config.ini` | **`ini`** |
| `workspace-reader.ts` `extractEnvKeys` | split-on-first-`=` line loop
| **`dotenv`** (`parse`) |
| `uninstall.ts` `readBundledSkillName` | `^name:(.+)$` capture +
outer-quote strip | **`yaml`** (already a dep) |
| `mcp-configs.ts` `escapeRegExp` | hand-rolled char-class escape |
**`escape-string-regexp`** |
| `export.ts` xctrace version, `session-context.ts` RN minor |
`match(/(\d+)\./)` / `split(".")[1]` | **`semver`** `coerce` (already a
dep) |
| `source-resolver.ts` `parseDebugStack` | `at fn (file:l:c)` regex
(required both line+col) | **`stacktrace-parser`** |
### Bugs these fix (covered by new tests)
- **ini**: a quoted `path = "/Users/My Name/.../X.avd"` kept its quotes,
failed the `startsWith("/")` guard → AVD unresolved. Inline comments /
trailing junk after a sizing value made the anchored regex return `null`
→ sizing warning silently lost.
- **dotenv**: `export FOO=bar` produced the key `"export FOO"` (dropped
by the identifier filter); a multi-line quoted value leaked its
continuation lines (`FAKE=...`) as phantom keys.
- **yaml**: a `name:` value with a trailing `# comment` was taken
verbatim (comment included); odd quoting only had one outer pair
stripped.
- **stacktrace-parser**: a `:line`-only frame (no column, as Hermes/JSC
can emit) became an unusable `unknown` frame.
## Deliberately left alone (not "flaky", or no safe swap)
To avoid churn and regressions, I did **not** touch:
- **`uiautomator-parser.ts`** hand-rolled XML parser — a deliberate,
documented choice with a dedicated hardening suite, including a
*leniency* test for malformed dumps (stray `</node>`). A spec XML parser
would reject inputs this is built to recover from.
- **`ios-profiler/pipeline/xml-parser.ts`** (xctrace XML) — the most
tangled parser, but it has no real `.trace` fixtures and only thin
entity-decode tests. A rewrite can't be proven equivalent without
device-generated traces, so swapping it blind risks silently breaking
iOS CPU/hang/leak reports. Best done separately with a captured fixture.
- **`http.ts` `extractHostname`** — DNS-rebinding guard; `URL.hostname`
keeps the IPv6 brackets the loopback check compares without, so the
"fix" isn't simpler and the path is security-sensitive.
- **`adb.ts` `shellQuote`** — the POSIX single-quote escape is the
standard correct form.
- **`parseAdbDevices`, `android-screen.ts` `wm size`, `detect-app.ts`
dumpsys** — tool-specific CLI-output scraping with no clean package
equivalent (and documented edge-case handling).
- **`workspace-reader.ts` `extractMetroPort`** — a best-effort heuristic
over JS config; a correct replacement needs an AST parse, out of scope
here.
- **`config-parse.ts` Yarn/npm age-gate parsing** — a precise,
unit-tested domain parser; `ms` would introduce a bare-number ambiguity.
## Verification
- `tsc --build` clean across the workspace graph.
- Tests: tool-server **1205**, installer **264**, update-core **31** —
all pass (incl. the new regression tests).
- `prettier --check` clean on all changed files.
- Production esbuild bundle (`bundle-tools.cjs`) emits a valid
`tool-server.cjs`/`mcp-server.mjs` with
`ini`/`dotenv`/`stacktrace-parser` inlined (`node --check` OK). *(The
script's final step errored only on the auth-gated
`trace-processor.wasm` download, unrelated to bundling.)*
New runtime deps: `ini`, `dotenv`, `stacktrace-parser` (tool-server),
`escape-string-regexp` (installer) — all small, pure-JS. Lockfile change
is purely additive.

fix(argent-lens): don't mark a visible element off-screen when the variant frame is a larger crop (#359)
## The bug
A variant proposed for the Favourites header (matched by text
**"Export"**) was marked **off-screen / hidden** in Argent Lens even
though the "Export" button was clearly visible. Found during E2E testing
of the Pokémon app.
Repro proposal:
- `match: {by:"text", value:"Export"}`
- `variant.frame: {x:0, y:0, width:1, height:0.205}`
## Root cause
`vpMatchNode` (the on-screen matcher) seeds the match **anchor** from
the proposal's `variant.frame`, then a **size gate** (`MAX_SIZE_RATIO =
2.5`) rejects candidates whose size differs too much from that seed.
But `variant.frame` is a thumbnail **crop region** — frequently a whole
component — while `match` can anchor on a small **sub-element** inside
it. Here the agent cropped the full-width header band (`{w:1, h:0.205}`)
but anchored on the tiny "Export" button (live frame `{x:0.743, y:0.109,
w:0.181, h:0.037}` from `describe`). The ~5.5× width gap tripped the
gate, which eliminated the **only** on-screen candidate → `vpMatchNode`
returned `null` → reported off-screen.
## Fix
Make the size gate a **preference**, not an eliminator
(`packages/ui/index.html`, `vpMatchNode`): keep the nearest candidate
even when the gate rejects it and fall back to it, so a clearly
on-screen element is never dropped. The gate still disambiguates among
multiple same-text candidates (size-matched wins), and the
locked-identity re-match path is unchanged.
## Verification
Headless-Chrome repro against the real UI, injecting the live Favourites
AX tree + the exact proposal:
- **before:** `onScreen: false` (bug reproduced)
- **after:** `onScreen: true`, matched "Export"
Full UI regression sweep (theme seed, stream-reconnect, off-screen pill,
comment-Escape, reduced-motion) still green.
Follow-up to #271 (Argent Lens).

fix(stop-metro): only kill the listener (keep execFileSync, no shell) (#364)
## Problem `stop-metro` runs `lsof -ti tcp:<port>`, which returns **every** process with a socket on the port — including `ESTABLISHED` connections, not just the listener. The Argent tool-server holds a CDP client socket to Metro on that port, so `stop-metro` `SIGTERM`s the tool-server along with Metro (it then auto-respawns, dropping in-memory profiler session state and disrupting any connected editor). ## Fix Add `-sTCP:LISTEN` so only the process *listening* on the port (Metro) matches. This keeps the existing `execFileSync` (no shell) call — `port` is never shell-interpreted, preserving the defense-in-depth in the original code. > Note: there is an existing branch `fix/stop-metro-listener-only` with the same `-sTCP:LISTEN` idea, but it switches to `execSync` with the port interpolated into a shell string. `port` is zod-validated to an int so it's safe in practice, but it reintroduces a shell surface the original deliberately avoided. This PR is the no-shell alternative — pick whichever you prefer. ## Verification Listener-vs-client repro: `lsof -ti tcp:<port>` returns both the listener and a connected client pid; `lsof -ti tcp:<port> -sTCP:LISTEN` returns only the listener. |

feat(installer): add Kiro CLI MCP support (#410)
Fixes #408 ## Summary Adds first-class support for the [Kiro CLI](https://kiro.dev/cli/) to `argent init` / `update` / `uninstall`, so the Argent MCP server is registered for Kiro alongside the other supported editors. The new `kiroAdapter` follows the same `McpConfigAdapter` contract as every other editor, so it automatically flows through the existing init wizard, the `update` re-sync (only for users who opted Kiro in), and the uninstall sweep. ## What it does Per Kiro's [MCP configuration docs](https://kiro.dev/docs/mcp/configuration/): - **Config paths** — `.kiro/settings/mcp.json` (workspace) and `~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json` (user/global). - **Format** — writes the documented `mcpServers` shape: ```json { "mcpServers": { "argent": { "command": "argent", "args": ["mcp"] } } } ``` - **Auto-approve** — opting into the allowlist sets `"autoApprove": ["*"]` on the `argent` entry (Kiro's documented "approve all tools" syntax), scope-aware for project vs. global. - **Detection** — `detect()` is true when a `.kiro` dir exists in the project or home dir; `.kiro` is also added to the project-root markers so `resolveProjectRoot` treats a Kiro workspace as a project root. ## Scope MCP-only, matching editors like Windsurf/Zed/Hermes that don't get rules/agents copied. Kiro's steering files are a separate mechanism and out of scope for this MCP-config request. ## Testing - `vitest run` for `@argent/installer` — **299 passed** (12 new Kiro adapter tests: write/remove/detect/allowlist round-trips, scope handling, server preservation). The generic `ALL_ADAPTERS` portability/env/uninstall sweeps now also cover Kiro. - Typecheck (`tsc --noEmit`) on src + tests, ESLint (`--max-warnings 0`), and Prettier all clean. - End-to-end against the **compiled** `dist` artifact: drove `init.ts`'s exact `getMcpEntry → write → addAllowlist` sequence into a temp project and confirmed `.kiro/settings/mcp.json` is produced with the format above (including `autoApprove: ["*"]`), and that `remove()` prunes it. --- ## End-to-end verification against the real Kiro CLI The docs were not taken on faith — the actual `kiro-cli` was installed and the integration validated against the real binary and the open-source upstream. **Reconciled a real risk first:** the **Kiro CLI** (kiro.dev/cli/) is the rebranded **Amazon Q Developer CLI**, documented separately from the Kiro IDE. Confirmed both read the **same** config paths this adapter targets — `<root>/.kiro/settings/mcp.json` (workspace) and `~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json` (global) — via the CLI-specific docs, multiple web sources, the CLI's own `mcp --scope {workspace, global}` flags, and the pre-existing `~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json` on the test machine. **Verified, autonomously:** - **`argent mcp` is a working MCP stdio server** — completed an `initialize` + `tools/list` handshake: `serverInfo {name: "argent", version: "0.12.1"}`, **69 tools** (incl. `screenshot`, `list-devices`). This is exactly the `command`/`args` the adapter writes. - **Installed the real Kiro CLI** (`kiro-cli 2.9.0`) via the official installer and wrote the workspace config through the **compiled adapter** (`dist/`), producing the expected `{ mcpServers: { argent: { command, args, autoApprove } } }`. - **Config-schema compatibility, proven authoritatively.** The CLI's server-config struct (`CustomToolConfig`, upstream + confirmed in the 2.9.0 binary) recognizes `command/args/env/timeout/disabled` — our `command`/`args`/`env` map exactly. It has **no `deny_unknown_fields`** (that serde attribute lives only on the *agent* config), so the extra **`autoApprove` is silently ignored by the CLI** — it cannot break loading. Since the file is shared with the Kiro IDE, `autoApprove: ["*"]` is honored there and harmless here. **Could not exercise (no credentials):** every `kiro-cli mcp` subcommand and `chat` is gated behind `kiro-cli login` (Kiro/AWS auth). So the final authenticated leg — `kiro-cli chat` spawning `argent mcp` and listing/invoking a tool live — was **not** run. Every link up to that boundary is verified; the remaining step is mechanical given a logged-in session. |

fix(screenshot): wait for first frame so multi-sim captures don't fail (#391) (#399)
After more investigation i've found a much better fix for #391. I'm merging this either way, because it blocks 0.13.0 release and we already have this fix tested and approved. By the next release, I want to revert this patch in favour of fixing core of the issue in simserver. Regression introduced by https://github.com/software-mansion/radon/pull/101 adding the streaming feature to the argent simulator-server build, which made `/api/screenshot` serve the last streamed frame async instead of capturing on demand. <details> ## Summary Fixes #391 — `screenshot` failing with `no image to export` when more than one simulator is booted, even with an explicit `--udid`. Regression in 0.12.x. ## Root cause The simulator-server captures screenshots from its **live frame stream**, so a capture only succeeds once the first frame has arrived. Immediately after the server starts streaming, `POST /api/screenshot` replies `HTTP 200 { error: "no image to export" }` until that first frame lands (~0.5–1s). The tool-server requested the capture right after the server became ready, **losing that race**. - With a single, foreground simulator the first frame arrives fast enough that the race is usually won — hiding the bug. - With more than one simulator booted, the target is often backgrounded and its first frame is delayed, so the race is lost **reliably** → `no image to export`. This became reachable when streaming was enabled for the argent simulator-server build in 0.12.x (radon [#101](https://github.com/software-mansion/radon/pull/101)); the 0.11.0 non-streaming build captured frames on demand, so it was immune. Device selection itself is correct — each device's stream captures the right device (verified: Pro Max → 1320×2868, iPhone 15 → 1179×2556). ## Fix `httpScreenshot` now polls past that specific transient (every 250ms, up to 6s) instead of failing immediately, while still surfacing every other error (non-2xx, Android `wrong data size`, missing url/path) right away. ## Verification End-to-end against the **shipped** simulator-server binary with **three** booted simulators, forcing a fresh sim-server spawn before each capture: | | result | |---|---| | **unfixed** (current `dist`) | `no image to export` ~2/3 of fresh-spawn attempts | | **fixed** | 7/7 success (~800ms), returns a correct PNG (1320×2868) | - `npm test` (tool-server): **1199 passed**, including new retry / give-up cases for `httpScreenshot` - `npx tsc --build`, `prettier --check`, `typecheck:tests`: clean </details>v0.13.0 |

feat(tool-server): implement await-ui-element tool (#396)
## Summary
Adds a `await-ui-element` tool that blocks until a UI condition is
satisfied or a timeout elapses.
This is one of the most impactful missing tools. Without it, agents have
to poll manually with `screenshot → describe → check` loops — slow,
token-heavy, and unreliable (fixed `sleep` delays either over-wait or
fire before the screen settles). `await-ui-element` moves the poll loop
server-side: one call in, a definitive verdict out.
Works on **iOS, Android, and Chromium (CDP)**, polling the same
accessibility / DOM tree as `describe`.
## Conditions
- `visible <selector>` — wait until an element appears on screen
- `hidden <selector>` — wait until an element disappears
- `exists <selector>` — wait until an element is in the tree
- `text <selector> <expectedText>` — wait until the matched element
contains the text
**selector** is `{ text?, identifier?, role? }` — every field provided
must match (case-insensitive substring). Polls internally; default
`timeoutMs` **5000**, default `pollIntervalMs` **400**. Returns `{
success: boolean, elapsed: number }`, with a `note` explaining what was
seen on timeout.
```json
{ "udid": "<UDID>", "condition": "visible", "selector": { "text": "Continue" } }
```
Also usable as a step inside `run-sequence`, so a tap → await-ui-element
→ tap chain runs in a single call.
## Notable details
- **Multi-match aware** — a substring selector can hit several nodes, so
conditions evaluate the whole match set: `visible` holds if any match is
on-screen, `hidden` only if none is (a zero-area container can't flip
the verdict).
- **`hidden` guard** — a selector that matches nothing counts as
already-hidden; the `note` flags when the selector never matched, so a
typo doesn't read as a silent success.
- **Deadline-clamped poll** — a large `pollIntervalMs` can't overshoot
`timeoutMs`.
- **Abort-aware** — both the `time` sleep and the poll loop stop
promptly on cancellation.
## Changes
- `tools/await-ui-element/index.ts` — new tool (factory, mirrors
`describe`'s service resolution)
- `utils/setup-registry.ts` — registers the tool
- `tools/run-sequence/index.ts` — allows `await-ui-element` as a step +
arg-doc + example
- `test/await-ui-element.test.ts` — new test suite
- `skills/rules/argent.md` + `argent-device-interact/SKILL.md` —
document `await-ui-element`, replace the "don't poll `screenshot`"
guidance with it
## Test plan
- [x] `time` sleeps and succeeds without touching a device
- [x] `visible` succeeds once the element appears; times out with a
diagnostic note when it doesn't
- [x] `exists` / `hidden` / `text` happy paths; `text` timeout note
reports last-seen text
- [x] `hidden` instant success **and** the "selector never matched" flag
- [x] poll sleep clamped to the deadline (large `pollIntervalMs` can't
overshoot `timeoutMs`)
- [x] prompt cancellation aborts both the poll loop and the `time` sleep
- [x] multi-match evaluation (`findAll` / `evaluateMatches`)
- [x] schema validation (required fields per condition, `durationMs`
cap)

fix(telemetry): orchestator sub-tools invocations was missing ai_client and platform attributes (#400)
## Summary Fixes telemetry attribution for tools dispatched by orchestrators. `run-sequence`, `flow-execute`, and `flow-add-step` run their steps via `registry.invokeTool()` directly, which minted a fresh, unregistered invocation id per nested call — so the `ai_client` / `platform` the HTTP layer captured for the outer request never reached the nested gestures, and they were recorded as **anonymous** in telemetry. Remove `opt_out` event that is a leftover. ## Changes - Add an optional `recordChildInvocation` recorder to `InvokeToolOptions` / `ToolContext`, bound by the HTTP layer to the outer request's attribution. - New `invokeSubTool` helper: registers each sub-tool under a minted id inheriting the request's AI client, with the platform re-derived from the sub-tool's **own** device arg (`udid` / `device_id` / `avdName`); forwards the recorder so propagation survives arbitrary nesting (e.g. `flow-execute → run-sequence → gesture-tap`). - Route the three orchestrators' sub-dispatch through - Refactor platform inference in the HTTP layer into a shared `platformFromArgs` helper (also hardened to not throw on a malformed device arg). - Remove opt_out event leftover Why re-derive platform per child: an orchestrator like `flow-execute` has no platform of its own and a single flow can target several devices, so the child's device arg is the only correct platform source; the parent's platform is the fallback. |

fix(release): auto-sync the npm 'next' dist-tag to the highest published version (#357)
Auto-sync the npm `next` dist-tag to the highest published version (prerelease or stable) so it stops drifting behind `latest`. - New dependency-free `scripts/sync-next-dist-tag.mjs` (SemVer comparator verified against the `semver` lib in `scripts/sync-next-dist-tag.test.mjs`). - Runs as a post-publish step in `publish.yml` and `publish-next.yml` (with `continue-on-error` so a transient registry blip never fails an already-successful release), plus a manual `Sync 'next' dist-tag` workflow with a dry-run toggle. - Only ever advances `next` (never regresses it) to survive a stale post-publish packument read. - Package-name arg parsing rejects flag/blank tokens so the scoped `@swmansion/argent` default reliably wins. |

fix(argent-lens): preview-UI serving, variant matcher, and off-screen reveal (#394)
Three independent reliability fixes for **Argent Lens** (the `propose_variant` / `await_user_selection` variant-review flow and its preview window). They touch disjoint files and were validated separately; combined here into one PR. --- ### 1. Preview window 404s on dot-path installs (nvm/fnm/volta/asdf) The Lens window showed a raw `NotFoundError` instead of the variant UI whenever argent was installed under a path containing a dot-segment (most commonly nvm, `~/.nvm/...`). `GET /preview/` and `/preview/theme.css` returned 404 while JSON routes worked. Cause: the express 4 → 5 bump (#354, shipped in v0.12.1). Express 5's `send@1` defaults to `dotfiles: "ignore"`, which 404s any file path containing a dot-segment, and the preview routes pass the absolute install path to `res.sendFile`. Proven in isolation: express 5.2.1 `sendFile` of the file → 404; express 4.22.1 → 200; `sendFile(basename, { root: dir })` → 200. Fix: serve the preview UI via `sendFile(basename, { root: dir })` (a `serveUiFile` helper) so the request path carries no dot-segment. Regression test serves the UI from a temp dir whose name starts with `.`. > Note: the underlying `send@1` dot-path behaviour is a property of the express-5 migration, not of Lens — these two routes are simply the only `sendFile` calls in the tool-server today. ### 2. Variant fails to anchor right after navigation A `propose_variant` made immediately after navigating to a screen (exactly the navigate → screenshot → propose workflow) often failed to anchor: the card floated/hid ("didn't register"), or latched onto a same-text distractor (e.g. a bottom-bar tab instead of a header). Cause: `captureElementFrame` describes the device **once** at propose time, but iOS' accessibility tree is empty for ~1.25 s after a screen appears and then fills incrementally (nav chrome before screen content) — measured on a real device. Fix: `captureElementFrame` now retries across the warm-up window and **holds out for an exact label/identifier hit** (the intended element), falling back to a substring match only after the budget. `findElementMatch` / `matchFrameInTree` rank exact matches above substring ones. Adds `match-element-frame-cold-describe.test.ts`; two existing tests updated for the new retry signature. ### 3. Off-screen choices were unreachable In the preview window, the off-screen reveal prompt (the "Show them" card and the "N hidden — show" pill) was hidden unless **every on-screen choice was already staged** (`onScreenStaged`). So a proposal whose element was off-screen showed a hidden-choice count with no affordance to surface it. Fix: show the prompt whenever any element is off-screen (`offScreenCount > 0 && !revealOffscreen && !submitting`), dropping the `onScreenStaged` gate. --- Supersedes #390, #392, #393 (same commits, combined). |

fix(skills): remove deprecated or non-existent things from skills/rules (#377)
## Summary Audited the shipped skills, rules, and tool descriptions for references to things that no longer exist or no longer match the implementation, and corrected them. No behavior changes — these are documentation/description fixes that keep agent-facing guidance in sync with the actual tool surface and code. ## Changes **Text entry → standardize on `keyboard`** - `argent-device-interact`: best-practice step and the "Choosing the Right Tool" table now point text entry at the cross-platform `keyboard` tool; dropped the standalone text-entry subsection that referenced `paste`. - `argent-test-ui-flow`: login-flow example and the Tips section now use `keyboard`. - `keyboard` tool (`keyboard/index.ts`): removed the `paste` cross-references from the `text` param and tool descriptions. - *(The `paste` tool source is left untouched.)* **`run-sequence` allowed-tools list (`argent-device-interact`)** - Added the Chromium gesture tools `gesture-scroll` and `gesture-drag`, which were missing from the documented allow-list. **`boot-device` parameter name (`list-devices.ts`)** - Tool description referenced a non-existent `chromiumAppPath`; corrected to the real parameter `electronAppPath`. **Native-profiler YELLOW band (`argent-native-profiler` + `IOS_PROFILER_REFERENCE.md`)** - Corrected the documented YELLOW severity range from `5–15%` to `3–15%` to match the implementation (`MIN_WEIGHT_PERCENTAGE = 3` in `02-aggregate.ts`). - Removed the now-obsolete reconciliation note in `IOS_PROFILER_REFERENCE.md` that flagged the doc/code mismatch. |

fix(profiler): make Android native-profiler analysis accurate (#338)
## Summary Found while exercising the new Android (Perfetto) native profiler end-to-end on an emulator: the **measurement** is solid, but the **interpretation** layer didn't account for the emulator environment or its own signals, so it surfaced misleading findings/advice. This makes the Android analysis honest: - **CPU hotspots:** on the emulator the hottest frames are the goldfish/QEMU GPU-transport pipe and Linux kernel syscalls (`goldfish_pipe_read_write`, `gup_fast_fallback`, `do_syscall_64`), not app code. They were presented as actionable app hotspots with `reduce view hierarchy depth` advice. Now they're classified and labelled as emulator/kernel overhead, with advice that says so (and to re-profile on a real device); real app frames get actionable advice. - **UI hangs:** advice was always `move heavy work to background queue`, even when the printed main-thread state breakdown showed the thread was **sleeping** (state `S`) for the whole hang — i.e. a GPU/vsync wait, not CPU work. Advice is now derived from the state breakdown (blocked / runnable / executing). - **`hang_stacks`:** an off-CPU (sleeping) hang has no on-CPU stack, so the section was silently empty. It now explains the empty result and points at the state breakdown. ## Why The advice directly contradicted the tool's own state-breakdown data, and the CPU section was dominated by emulator noise — both erode trust in the report. ## Test plan - New `test/android-perfetto/analysis-advice.test.ts` and `hang-stacks-offcpu.test.ts`. - `npm test -w @argent/tool-server` — all pass; `tsc --build` + `typecheck:tests` clean. > Part of a set of native-profiler fixes found in the same session. Touches the shared `render.ts` advice paths and the Android `hang_stacks` renderer. |
