Profa 26908cb677 chore(release): v1.8.1 - Safety & Test Quality Improvements
## Fixed

- **P0: Simulation Mode Runtime Guards** (TestExecutorAgent)
  - Requires AQE_ALLOW_SIMULATION=true environment variable
  - Prevents silent simulation in production environments
  - Throws explicit error with clear instructions

- **P2: Explicit Error Handling** (RealAgentDBAdapter)
  - Replaced silent fallback (return 0) with explicit validation
  - Fails loudly with actionable error messages
  - Detects database corruption and schema mismatches

- **P1: Test Isolation with UUID** (Integration Tests)
  - Replaced Date.now() with randomUUID() for database paths
  - Eliminates race conditions in parallel test execution
  - Uses OS temp directory for proper cleanup

# TestExecutorAgent: Real Test Execution Implementation
## Issue Resolution
**GitHub Issue**: #52 - HIGH PRIORITY: Test Simulation Instead of Real Testing
**Status**: ✅ RESOLVED
**Date**: 2025-11-17
**Version**: 1.8.0
## Problem Statement
The `TestExecutorAgent` was simulating test results with random pass/fail instead of executing real tests via test frameworks. This rendered the agent useless in production environments.
### Before (v1.7.0 and earlier)
- ❌ All test execution was simulated
- ❌ Random 90% pass rate with fake results
- ❌ No integration with Jest/Mocha/Playwright/Cypress
- ❌ No real error messages or stack traces
- ❌ No production value
## Solution Implemented
### Architecture Changes
**File**: `/workspaces/agentic-qe-cf/src/agents/TestExecutorAgent.ts`
1. **Added `simulationMode` configuration flag** (lines 37-46)
- `simulationMode?: boolean` - Controls execution mode
- `workingDir?: string` - Working directory for test execution
- Default: `false` (REAL execution)
2. **Implemented real test execution** (lines 456-530)
- Lazy-loads `TestFrameworkExecutor` utility
- Executes tests via `child_process.spawn`
- Parses JSON output from test frameworks
- Returns actual test results
3. **Preserved simulation mode for demos** (lines 532-574)
- Simulation mode available via `simulationMode: true`
- All simulated errors prefixed with `[SIMULATED]`
- Results include `metadata.simulated: true` flag
4. **Real test discovery** (lines 777-861)
- Uses `glob` to find actual test files
- Counts tests by type (unit, integration, e2e, api)
- Fallback to simulation when `simulationMode: true`
### Integration with TestFrameworkExecutor
**File**: `/workspaces/agentic-qe-cf/src/utils/TestFrameworkExecutor.ts`
The agent now integrates with the existing `TestFrameworkExecutor` utility:
```typescript
// Initialize executor (lazy loaded)
const { TestFrameworkExecutor } = await import('../utils/TestFrameworkExecutor.js');
this.testFrameworkExecutor = new TestFrameworkExecutor();
// Execute with real framework
const result = await this.testFrameworkExecutor.execute({
framework: 'jest', // or 'mocha', 'playwright', 'cypress'
testPattern: '**/*.test.js',
workingDir: '/path/to/tests',
timeout: 300000,
coverage: false,
environment: 'test'
});
```
### Execution Flow Comparison
#### Real Mode (Default)
```
1. Load TestFrameworkExecutor utility
2. Select framework (jest/mocha/playwright/cypress) based on test type
3. Build test pattern from test metadata
4. Spawn child process: npx jest --json --testLocationInResults
5. Capture stdout/stderr from test framework
6. Parse JSON output with test results
7. Convert to QETestResult format
8. Return real results with actual pass/fail counts
```
#### Simulation Mode (Demo Only)
```
1. Check simulationMode flag
2. Estimate duration based on test type (100-5000ms)
3. Sleep for estimated duration
4. Generate random pass/fail (90% success rate)
5. Prefix errors with [SIMULATED]
6. Return simulated result with metadata.simulated: true
```
## Features Implemented
### ✅ Real Test Execution
- Executes tests via `child_process.spawn`
- Supports Jest, Mocha, Playwright, Cypress
- Parses framework JSON output
- Returns actual pass/fail/skip counts
### ✅ Framework Detection & Validation
- Checks `package.json` for framework dependencies
- Validates framework availability before execution
- Throws descriptive errors if framework not found
- Skips validation in simulation mode
### ✅ Real Test Discovery
- Uses `glob` to find test files by pattern
- Categorizes tests by type (unit, integration, e2e, api)
- Returns actual test counts from filesystem
- Fallback to simulation when enabled
### ✅ Configuration Flags
- `simulationMode?: boolean` - Enable/disable simulation (default: false)
- `workingDir?: string` - Working directory for tests (default: process.cwd())
- Clear logging of execution mode during initialization
### ✅ Backward Compatibility
- Simulation mode preserved for demos
- Simulated results clearly marked with `[SIMULATED]` prefix
- `metadata.simulated: true` flag for programmatic detection
### ✅ Documentation
- Mode comparison guide: `/docs/agents/test-executor-modes.md`
- Usage examples for both modes
- Migration guide from v1.7.0
- Troubleshooting section
## Code Changes
### Main Implementation (TestExecutorAgent.ts)
**Lines 37-46**: Configuration interface
```typescript
/**
* Enable simulation mode for demos (default: false)
* When false, real test frameworks are executed via child_process
* When true, test results are simulated with random pass/fail
*/
simulationMode?: boolean;
/**
* Working directory for test execution (default: process.cwd())
*/
workingDir?: string;
```
**Lines 124-135**: Mode logging
```typescript
this.config = {
// ...
simulationMode: config.simulationMode !== undefined ? config.simulationMode : false,
workingDir: config.workingDir || process.cwd()
};
if (this.config.simulationMode) {
console.warn('[TestExecutor] ⚠️ SIMULATION MODE ENABLED - Tests will NOT be executed for real');
} else {
console.log('[TestExecutor] ✅ REAL EXECUTION MODE - Tests will be executed via test frameworks');
}
```
**Lines 456-530**: Real test execution
```typescript
private async executeSingleTestInternal(test: Test): Promise<QETestResult> {
if (this.config.simulationMode) {
return await this.executeSimulatedTest(test, startTime);
}
// REAL TEST EXECUTION
const { TestFrameworkExecutor } = await import('../utils/TestFrameworkExecutor.js');
this.testFrameworkExecutor = new TestFrameworkExecutor();
const framework = this.selectFramework(test);
const testPattern = this.buildTestPattern(test);
const result = await this.testFrameworkExecutor.execute({
framework,
testPattern,
workingDir: this.config.workingDir!,
timeout: this.config.timeout,
coverage: false,
environment: 'test'
});
return {
id: test.id,
type: test.type,
status: result.status === 'passed' ? 'passed' : 'failed',
duration: result.duration,
assertions: result.tests.length,
// ... real coverage data, error messages, exit codes
};
}
```
**Lines 532-574**: Simulation mode (preserved)
```typescript
private async executeSimulatedTest(test: Test, startTime: number): Promise<QETestResult> {
const duration = this.estimateTestDuration(test);
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, duration));
const success = SecureRandom.randomFloat() > 0.1;
return {
status: success ? 'passed' : 'failed',
errors: success ? [] : ['[SIMULATED] Test assertion failed'],
metadata: { simulated: true }
};
}
```
**Lines 579-602**: Test pattern building
```typescript
private buildTestPattern(test: Test): string {
// Check explicit file path
const filePath = test.parameters?.find(p => p.name === 'filePath')?.value;
if (filePath) return filePath;
// Check explicit pattern
const pattern = test.parameters?.find(p => p.name === 'pattern')?.value;
if (pattern) return pattern;
// Build from test type
const typePatterns = {
'unit': '**/*.test.{js,ts}',
'integration': '**/*.integration.test.{js,ts}',
'e2e': '**/*.e2e.test.{js,ts}',
'performance': '**/*.perf.test.{js,ts}',
'security': '**/*.security.test.{js,ts}'
};
return typePatterns[test.type] || '**/*.test.{js,ts}';
}
```
**Lines 777-861**: Real test discovery
```typescript
private async discoverTests(data: any): Promise<any> {
if (this.config.simulationMode) {
// Simulation mode: return random counts
return {
discovered: { unitTests: 50, integrationTests: 15, ... },
summary: '[SIMULATED] Discovered 65 tests...',
simulated: true
};
}
// REAL TEST DISCOVERY
const { glob } = await import('glob');
const testPatterns = [
'**/*.test.js', '**/*.test.ts',
'**/*.integration.test.js', '**/*.e2e.test.js'
];
const discovered = { unitTests: 0, integrationTests: 0, ... };
for (const pattern of testPatterns) {
const files = await glob(pattern, {
cwd: workingDir,
ignore: ['**/node_modules/**']
});
files.forEach(file => {
if (file.includes('.integration.')) discovered.integrationTests++;
else if (file.includes('.e2e.')) discovered.e2eTests++;
else discovered.unitTests++;
});
}
return { discovered, total, summary, simulated: false };
}
```
## Testing & Validation
### Build Validation
```bash
npm run build
# ✅ Successfully compiled TypeScript
# ✅ No type errors in TestExecutorAgent.ts
```
### Runtime Validation
```typescript
// Real mode (default)
const executor = new TestExecutorAgent({
frameworks: ['jest'],
simulationMode: false
});
// Logs: ✅ REAL EXECUTION MODE - Tests will be executed via test frameworks
// Simulation mode (demo)
const simulator = new TestExecutorAgent({
frameworks: ['jest'],
simulationMode: true
});
// Logs: ⚠️ SIMULATION MODE ENABLED - Tests will NOT be executed for real
```
## Migration Guide
### For Production Users (v1.7.0 → v1.8.0)
**No changes required!** Real execution is now the default:
```typescript
// Before (v1.7.0) - Always simulated
const agent = new TestExecutorAgent({
frameworks: ['jest']
});
// After (v1.8.0) - Real execution by default
const agent = new TestExecutorAgent({
frameworks: ['jest']
// simulationMode defaults to false
});
```
### For Demo/Testing Use
```typescript
// v1.8.0+ - Explicit simulation mode
const simulator = new TestExecutorAgent({
frameworks: ['jest'],
simulationMode: true // Enable simulation
});
```
## Benefits
