### What?
Migrate remaining direct `next-webdriver` test callers that have a
`NextInstance` to `next.browser()`, and expose the shared `Playwright`
browser type from `e2e-utils`.
### Why?
`NextInstance.browser` should be the supported browser-opening interface
for test fixtures, with `next-webdriver` kept as the private
implementation detail.
### How?
Updated affected development, e2e, and production tests to call
`next.browser()` directly, passing `baseUrl` where tests intentionally
target a manually spawned or proxied server. Shared helpers now receive
browser callbacks from the test context, and browser types import
`Playwright` from `e2e-utils` instead of deriving from `next.browser` or
importing from private paths.

## What?
Converts existing `createNext()` usage into `nextTestSetup()`.
`createNext()` was the setup step we had before `nextTestSetup()` was
added.
This PR focused on the simple conversion cases. There will be a
follow-up to complete the last few.

we define most of the app router headers with capital letters, like
this:
```ts
export const NEXT_ROUTER_PREFETCH_HEADER = 'Next-Router-Prefetch' as const
```
which means we have to keep lowercasing the header everywhere when
checking for its presence, because node and other intermediate layers
normalize all headers to lowercase:
```ts
if (req.headers[NEXT_ROUTER_PREFETCH_HEADER.toLowerCase()]) { ... }
```
this seems pretty pointless -- we can just define the headers in
lowercase form, and skip all those `toLowerCase()` calls.
(all the above sentences have been normalized to lowercase to match the
spirit of this pr)
## What
Using methods from `next/headers` in middleware would throw a `requestAsyncStorage` invariant. Additionally, using `draftMode()` in middleware/an edge runtime is not possible
## Why
We do not expose `requestAsyncStorage` to the middleware adapter. Also, the prerender manifest wasn't available to the `EdgeRouteModuleWrapper` & middleware adapter, so it wasn't possible to enable/disable it.
## How
This makes `requestAsyncStorage` available for middleware, and makes the preview mode data available from build to the edge runtime/middleware.
Fixes#52557
Since there is no longer a limitation that requires us to static analyze
`process.env`, this PR removes it from the build process and updates the
corresponding documentation.
When you're using `config` object with `runtime` we'll show a warning and recomment you to move to `export const runtime = ...` for runtime property as it's documented as recommended. This PR adds a error for `next build` to avoid logs are truncated during multi-workers build and you're aware of the config which doesn't take effect with seeing the error
Follow up for #48630
link [NEXT-426](https://linear.app/vercel/issue/NEXT-426)
Removes the `_` prefix from the RSC and Router headers as nginx strips
`_` prefixed headers by default.

Bundle the ssr client layer for RSC, this solves the problem when
there's an esm package is using on client components, but esm imports
the installed react instead of the built-in react version since esm
imports is not intercepted by require hook.
After bundling the ssr client layer and treating react as externals, now
react compiles as cjs externals and could be intercepted by require
hook, other code are bundled together which can also get optimized.

- Enable newNextLinkBehavior. See #36436
- Run next/link codemod on test suite
Note that from when this lands on apps trying canary will need to run
the new-link codemod in order to upgrade.
Ideally we have to detect `<a>` while rendering the new link and warn
for it.

This ensures we don't stub `react-dom` with the `experimental-edge` runtime and also unpins our tests to use the latest experimental release.

Alias all existing imports from `next/dist/..` to `next/dist/esm` for edge compiler. So that we don't need checking for `process.env.NEXT_RUNTIME === 'edge'` or passing down `nextRuntime` to decide wether the esm or cjs asset to require
This will also fix the issue that some layouts hook are been included twice into the bundle with cjs and esm bundle in edge runtime, now only esm chunk will be bundled in server.
This updates to ensure we properly error during static generation when a
non-dynamic SSR error is thrown so that unexpected errors are not
tolerated. This also fixes the static generation async storage not being
shared correctly due to different instances being created during
bundling.
`config.experimental.serverComponents` is currently required to be
enabled or disabled together with `config.experimental.appDir` (which
means `serverComponents === appDir` otherwise it will throw) so there is
no reason to keep both of them. This PR removes `serverComponents` from
Next.js and only rely on `appDir` instead.

Makes it possible to switch between edge/server runtime in dev without
breaking the server.

#### middleware-plugin.ts
`middlewareManifest` moved from module scope to local scope. Stale state
from earlier builds ended up in `middleware-manifest.json`. Functions
that changed from edge to server runtime stayed in the manifest as edge
functions.
#### on-demand-entry-handler.ts
When a server or edge entry is added we check if it has switched
runtime. If that's the case the old entry is removed.
#### Reproduce
Create edge API route and visit `/api/hello`
```js
// pages/api/hello.js
export const config = {
runtime: 'experimental-edge',
}
export default () => new Response('Hello')
```
Change it to a server api route and visit `/api/hello`, it will explode.
```js
// pages/api/hello.js
export default function (req, res) {
res.send('Hello')
}
```
#### Bug not fixed
One EDGE case is not fixed. It occurs if you switch between edge and
server runtime several times without changing the content of the file:
Edge runtime
```js
export const config = {
runtime: 'experimental-edge',
}
export default () => new Response('Hello')
```
Change it to a server runtime
```js
export default function (req, res) {
res.send('Hello')
}
```
Change back to edge runtime, the content of the file is the same as the
first time we compiled the edge runtime version.
```js
export const config = {
runtime: 'experimental-edge',
}
export default () => new Response('Hello')
```
The reason is that both the edge and server compiler emits to the same
file (/.next/server/pages/api/hello.js) which makes this check fail in
webpack:
https://github.com/webpack/webpack/blob/main/lib/Compiler.js#L849-L861
Possible solution is to use different output folders for edge and server

Currently the DEV server can't recover if you export an invalid runtime
config. It ends up in a state where it stops to work but nothing is
printed to the terminal.
It now prints an error but keeps working. When building it should crash,
there's an existing test for that
https://github.com/vercel/next.js/blob/canary/test/production/exported-runtimes-value-validation/index.test.ts#L5-L17
#### Reproduce
```tsx
export default function Page() {
return <p>hello world</p>
}
export const config = {
runtime: 'something-odd',
}
```
## Feature
As the title, support `has` match, `local` that works the same with the `rewrites` and `redirects` of next.config.js on middleware config. With this PR, you can write the config like the following:
```js
export const config = {
matcher: [
"/foo",
{ source: "/bar" },
{
source: "/baz",
has: [
{
type: 'header',
key: 'x-my-header',
value: 'my-value',
}
]
},
{
source: "/en/asdf",
locale: false,
},
]
}
```

- Group edge ssr tests, merge `edge-vs.-non-edge-api-route-priority` and `react-18-streaming-ssr` into 1 e2e test suite
- Add rewrite case to edge ssr in switchable runtime
Currently Edge SSR routes are added to both `routedPages` (catch-all page render routes) and `edgeRoutesSet` (catch-all edge function routes). This causes the request to be handled by both and results in an error (the Node server can't execute the Edge SSR route as a regular page).
Another fix is to make sure Edge Function routes are sorted too, so `/foo` can be caught before dynamic ones like `/[id]`.

x-ref #39199
The change in #39199 isn't correct. Middleware manifest should only contain middleware route, so that when router navigates, it only try to apply middleware instead of checking all edge routes. This PR also changes the middleware manifest global value from array to object for easier access
