Luke Sandberg 10fe9bea76 Link to issues in the contribution guide and discourage trivial PRs (#97188)
I just reviewed 10+ prs from @marcoshernanz landing trivial edit fixes
(on behalf of contributors) and outside of Documentation we really
shouldn't encourage this

Also, im guessing a link to the issue tracker is more useful than a 40
minute YouTube video

Jimmy Lai 4167e1f135 Docs: add signed commit guidance (#93155)
## What?

Adds contributor-facing guidance for the new signed-commit requirement.

- adds a `Signed commits` section to `contributing.md`
- adds a short signed-commit note to the PR template
- clarifies that a `Signed-off-by` line is not enough

## Why?

As signed commits become required, contributors need a clear explanation
in the repo and at PR time so they know what will be enforced and how to
recover from unsigned commits.

## How?

Documents the requirement in the main contribution guide and repeats the
key action items in the PR checklist.

## Testing

- docs-only change
- verified with local readback and diff review

Benjamin Woodruff ae6406afdd docs(turbopack): Copy over turbopack-trace-server docs (#91111)
**Rendered:** https://github.com/vercel/next.js/blob/dd1cc6fba3cff5fbc38dac3ff4426b481bfcbcb5/contributing/turbopack/tracing.md

This is the content from https://turbopack-rust-docs.vercel.sh/tracing_turbopack.html with some minor updates:

- Use GitHub Flavored Markdown for the warning block
- Some grammar fixes/tweaks
- Add an extra note about `--release` being important
- Add a mention of `pnpm next internal trace`
- Add a link to @timneutkens's youtube video
- Change the filepath from the old confusingly named `.next/trace.log` to `.next/trace-turbopack`
- Add a link to https://trace.nextjs.org/

Sam Ko 0aa0ef676d chore(github): remove /examples from contribution guidelines, remove examples issue template (#77050)
## Why?

Start the prep-work for removing/moving [Next.js examples](https://github.com/vercel/next.js/tree/canary/examples).

Today, a lot of these examples already have their own dedicated location in their respective GitHub orgs.

These examples are also now present in other locations.

Balázs Orbán 16a0e5af32 chore: improve repo templates (#46629)
## What?

- Rendering `next info` output as code in the bug template
- Removed the "Feature Request" issue template, in favor of a more
granular discussion template
- Added a minimal template for Help discussions

## Why?

The main part of this PR is the new Feature Request template.

Anyone can propose a change to Next.js. However adding new features
often requires community discussions - whether to align expectations,
understand the consequences (eg.: backward compatibility/lifetime of a
feature), to look at and understand historical reasons for the current
behavior or lack of the feature -, which [GitHub
discussions](https://github.com/vercel/next.js/discussions) is more
suited for than issues.

## How?

- Utilizing the new discussion templates
https://docs.github.com/en/discussions/managing-discussions-for-your-community/creating-discussion-category-forms
- Adding a link to the [new
issue](https://github.com/vercel/next.js/issues/new/choose) view to make
it easier to discover

Balázs Orbán b8c61a9c27 chore: detect no canary verification (#37788)
When triaging bug reports, we would like to make sure that our main focus is on unresolved issues. Next.js is a highly active project, and we cut new releases fairly often, under the `next@canary` tag. Some of the issues being reported might have already been fixed there, so we would like to encourage people to check them out. Once a fix is in `canary`, it will be included in the next `latest` release automatically.

We have tests running on the examples repository that will fail if `name` or `version` is found in the `package.json`. We should make it more clear in the documentation to omit these fields.

Steven 9f9214abe5 Updated create-next-app docs to include pnpm usage (#35755)
This PR updates the docs and examples for `create-next-app` to include pnpm usage.

The following script was used to update every example README:

```js
const fs = require('fs')
const examples = fs.readdirSync('./examples')
for (let example of examples) {
    const filename = `./examples/${example}/README.md`
    const markdown = fs.readFileSync(filename, 'utf8')
    const regex = new RegExp(`^yarn create next-app --example (.*)$`, 'gm')
    const output = markdown.replace(regex, (yarn, group) => {
        const pnpm = `pnpm create next-app -- --example ${group}`
        return `${yarn}\n# or\n${pnpm}`
    })
    fs.writeFileSync(filename, output)
}
C. Lewis baeb98e847 docs: make contributing.md more contributor-friendly (#27913)
C. Lewis c9ff4c7989 feat(package.json): add contributor-friendly lifecycle scripts (#27825)
## Feature
I was struggling to get my local dev build working as a local package.json override, and types do not seem to be generated by `yarn dev`, so I had to figure out a cohesive way to build the project start-to-finish (and also clean the project).
Building the project and all types ended up just being `yarn prepublish`, here aliased as `yarn build`, and I added a `yarn clean` script. These two together should make it very difficult for any contributor to be confused how to generate a final build including all type declarations.
John Jago c6ba29da00 docs: use descriptive links instead of "click here" (#25897)
* docs: use descriptive links instead of "click here"
Linking text such as "here" or "click here" is not accessible (and
doesn't look that great either). The best example of why it's better to
use link text that provides context is that some screen readers allow
navigation by links alone. If all links say "click here", then how does
the user know which one to go to?
I tried to make the minimal change necessary to make the link text
descriptive but had to reword a few sentences that didn't read well.
Dominic Elm d2caaeab64 docs: add 'Open in StackBlitz' buttons to various examples (#25853)
This PR adds a `Preview` section and a `Open in StackBlitz` button to various examples. I have tested all examples and omitted the ones that require third party API keys, or didn't work. Some examples don't work locally either.
Here's an example:
