Test Coverage

✅ GOAP Metric 1: Search Quality Improvement

Target: 10%+ improvement over 100 queries

Implementation:

  • 3-phase test: baseline (20 queries) → learning (50 queries) → evaluation (30 queries)
  • Measures confidence scores before and after GNN learning
  • Validates cache hit rate increases over time
  • Logs detailed metrics (baseline, eval, improvement %)

Test Cases:

  1. should improve search quality by 10%+ over 100 queries
  2. should demonstrate increasing cache hit rate over time

✅ GOAP Metric 2: EWC++ Pattern Retention

Target: 98%+ retention after adding 1000 new patterns

Implementation:

  • Store 100 initial patterns and verify retrieval
  • Add 1000 new patterns (catastrophic forgetting trigger)
  • Re-verify initial patterns are still retrievable
  • Calculates retention rate with detailed logging

Test Case: should retain 98%+ of patterns after adding new ones

✅ GOAP Metric 3: Search Latency

Target: <1ms p95 latency

Implementation:

  • Warmup with 100 patterns
  • Measure 1000 search operations
  • Calculate p50, p95, p99 percentiles
  • Logs full latency distribution

Test Case: should maintain <1ms p95 search latency

✅ GOAP Metric 4: LoRA Memory Constraints

Target: <300MB for adapters

Implementation:

  • Store 500+ patterns to trigger LoRA learning
  • Force consolidation via forceLearn()
  • Check memory usage via metrics API
  • Calculates memory per pattern

Test Case: should keep LoRA adapters under 300MB

✅ Additional Tests

GNN Quality Metrics:

  • Validates precision, recall, F1 score >80%
  • Test case: should provide GNN quality metrics

End-to-End Workflow:

  • Complete learning cycle across 5 categories
  • Validates full integration
  • Test case: should demonstrate complete learning cycle

Health Check:

  • Verifies service is running
  • Checks GNN/LoRA status
  • Test case: should verify RuVector service is healthy

Key Features

1. Docker Integration with Graceful Fallback

// Auto-detects Docker availability
try {
  await client.healthCheck();
  // Use real client
} catch {
  // Fall back to mock client
}

2. Mock Client Implementation

  • Simulates vector similarity search (cosine distance)
  • Implements cache hit/miss logic
  • Returns realistic mock metrics
  • Enables CI/CD testing without Docker

3. Comprehensive Logging

📊 Search Quality Metrics:
  Baseline confidence: 0.823
  Evaluation confidence: 0.947
  Improvement: 15.07%
  Cache hit rate: 68.42%
  Total patterns: 87

4. Helper Functions

  • generateEmbedding(): Creates deterministic 768-dim embeddings
  • generateSimilarEmbedding(): Creates similar embeddings with controlled variance
  • percentile(): Calculates latency percentiles
  • createLLMFallback(): Simulates LLM responses

5. Environment Configuration

RUVECTOR_URL=http://localhost:8080  # Service URL
RUVECTOR_MOCK=true                  # Use mock client
SKIP_RUVECTOR_TESTS=true            # Skip entirely
DEBUG=true                          # Verbose logging

Code Quality

✅ TypeScript Compliance

  • Passes tsc --noEmit without errors
  • Proper type annotations for all functions
  • Uses imported types from RuVectorClient

✅ Jest Integration

  • Discoverable by jest --listTests
  • Uses @jest/globals imports
  • Proper beforeAll, beforeEach, afterAll hooks
  • Appropriate timeouts (60s-180s for long-running tests)

✅ Error Handling

  • Graceful fallback when Docker unavailable
  • Skip mechanism via environment variable
  • Try-catch around all async operations
  • Informative console warnings

✅ Test Independence

  • Each test can run standalone
  • Metrics reset between tests via beforeEach
  • No shared mutable state
  • Cleanup in afterAll

Test Execution

Running Tests

With Docker:

docker run -d -p 8080:8080 ruvector/server:latest
npm run test:integration -- RuVector.SelfLearning

With Mock:

RUVECTOR_MOCK=true npm run test:integration -- RuVector.SelfLearning

Skip Entirely:

SKIP_RUVECTOR_TESTS=true npm run test:integration

Expected Execution Time

Test Time (Docker) Time (Mock)
Health Check 50ms 5ms
Search Quality (100 queries) 15-20s 2-3s
EWC++ Retention (1100 patterns) 45-60s 5-10s
Latency (1000 searches) 10-15s 1-2s
LoRA Memory (500 patterns) 15-20s 3-5s
GNN Metrics 8-10s 1-2s
E2E Workflow 20-30s 3-5s
Total ~2.5 minutes ~20 seconds

Integration Points

RuVectorClient API Usage

// Search
const results = await client.search(embedding, k);

// Store
await client.store({ embedding, content, metadata });

// Query with learning
const result = await client.queryWithLearning(query, embedding, llmFallback);

// Metrics
const metrics = await client.getMetrics();

// Force learning
const learnResult = await client.forceLearn();

// Health
const health = await client.healthCheck();

Mock Client API Compatibility

  • Implements same interface as RuVectorClient
  • Returns compatible data structures
  • Simulates realistic behavior (latencies, confidence scores)

Verification
