Key Technical Highlights
1. Safety-First Design
// Auto-apply DISABLED by default
autoApplyEnabled: false
// High thresholds for auto-apply
autoApplyMinConfidence: 0.9
autoApplyMinSuccessRate: 0.8
// Explicit opt-in required
await improvementLoop.setAutoApply(true);
2. Intelligent A/B Testing
// Weighted scoring (70% success, 30% speed)
const score = successRate * 0.7 + (1 - avgTime / 60000) * 0.3;
// Automatic winner determination
test.winner = bestResult.strategy;
await this.applyStrategy(test.winner);
3. Failure Pattern Mitigation
// Automatic suggestions based on pattern type
const mitigations = {
'timeout': 'Increase timeout or implement checkpointing',
'network': 'Implement retry logic with exponential backoff',
'memory': 'Implement memory pooling and GC optimization'
};
4. Background Worker with Retry
// Automatic retry on failure
for (let retry = 0; retry < maxRetries; retry++) {
try {
await improvementLoop.runImprovementCycle();
break;
} catch (error) {
if (retry < maxRetries - 1) {
await delay(retryDelayMs);
}
}
}

Integration Points
With PerformanceTracker
- Cycles use
calculateImprovement()to get current metrics - Target: 20% improvement over 30 days
- Metrics inform optimization decisions
With LearningEngine
- Leverages
getPatterns()for learned strategies - Uses
getFailurePatterns()for problem detection - Confidence and success rates drive auto-apply
With SwarmMemoryManager
- All data persisted for continuity
- Events emitted for monitoring
- Cross-session state management
Usage Quick Start
// 1. Initialize components
const improvementLoop = new ImprovementLoop(
agentId, memoryStore, learningEngine, performanceTracker
);
await improvementLoop.initialize();
// 2. Start background worker
const worker = new ImprovementWorker(improvementLoop, {
intervalMs: 3600000, // 1 hour
enabled: true
});
await worker.start();
// 3. (Optional) Enable auto-apply after validation
await improvementLoop.setAutoApply(true);
// 4. Monitor
const status = worker.getStatus();
console.log(`Completed: ${status.cyclesCompleted}, Success: ${worker.getStatistics().successRate}`);

- Review learned patterns and failure analysis
- Gradually enable auto-apply for select agents
- Track improvement metrics vs 20% target
Recommended Timeline
- Week 1-2: Staging deployment, monitoring only
- Week 3-4: Review patterns, validate mitigations
- Week 5-6: Enable auto-apply for 1-2 agents
- Week 7-8: Expand to full fleet if successful
- Week 9-12: Measure 20% improvement achievement
