Express REST API Implementation - Deliverables

✅ Mission Accomplished

Successfully replaced raw http.createServer() with Express.js framework in RestEndpoints.ts.

📦 Dependencies Installed

npm install express cors
npm install --save-dev @types/express @types/cors

Package Versions:

  • express: ^5.1.0
  • cors: ^2.8.5
  • @types/express: ^5.0.0
  • @types/cors: ^2.8.17

📝 Files Modified

1. /workspaces/agentic-qe-cf/src/visualization/api/RestEndpoints.ts

Changes:

  • ✅ Replaced http.createServer() with Express application
  • ✅ Added setupMiddleware() method for CORS, body parsing, request logging
  • ✅ Added setupRoutes() method for clean route definitions
  • ✅ Converted all route handlers to Express (req, res) signature
  • ✅ Implemented error handling middleware
  • ✅ Changed default port from 3000 to 3001

Key Code Sections:

// Express app initialization
this.app = express();
this.setupMiddleware();
this.setupRoutes();

// Middleware stack
private setupMiddleware(): void {
  this.app.use(cors({ ... }));
  this.app.use(express.json());
  this.app.use(express.urlencoded({ extended: true }));
  this.app.use((req, res, next) => { /* Request logging */ });
}

// Route definitions
private setupRoutes(): void {
  this.app.get('/api/visualization/events', this.handleGetEvents.bind(this));
  this.app.get('/api/visualization/reasoning/:chainId', this.handleGetReasoningRoute.bind(this));
  this.app.get('/api/visualization/metrics', this.handleGetMetricsRoute.bind(this));
  this.app.get('/api/visualization/agents/:agentId/history', this.handleGetAgentHistoryRoute.bind(this));
  this.app.get('/api/visualization/sessions/:sessionId', this.handleGetSessionRoute.bind(this));
  this.app.get('/api/visualization/graph/:sessionId', this.handleGetGraphRoute.bind(this));

  // Error handlers
  this.app.use((err, req, res, next) => { /* Error middleware */ });
  this.app.use((req, res) => { /* 404 handler */ });
}

// Server start
async start(): Promise<void> {
  await new Promise<void>((resolve, reject) => {
    this.server = this.app.listen(this.config.port, () => {
      console.log(`REST API server listening on port ${this.config.port}`);
      resolve();
    });
    this.server.on('error', reject);
  });
}

🎯 All 6 Endpoints Implemented

  origin: this.config.corsOrigins,        // Default: ['*']
  methods: ['GET', 'OPTIONS'], // Allow GET and preflight
  allowedHeaders: [
    'Content-Type',
    'Authorization',
    'If-None-Match'                       // For ETag caching
  ],
  maxAge: 86400, // Cache preflight for 24 hours
})
