The smoke-test app Dockerfiles ran `RUN npm install next@latest` right after installing the pinned deps from package.json. This overrode the deliberate `next` pin with a floating version (non-deterministic builds) and added a flaky network round-trip that broke the agno smoke build with ECONNRESET on 2026-06-04 (run 26972381969). Every affected starter already pins `next` in package.json (agno 16.0.7, adk 16.1.1, crewai ^15.5.15, llamaindex 16.0.8, ms-agent-framework-python 16.0.8, pydantic-ai 16.0.7), so the extra install is pure harm. Removing it makes builds deterministic and removes the network fragility.
CopilotKit <> ADK Starter
This is a starter template for building AI agents using Google's ADK and CopilotKit. It provides a modern Next.js application with an integrated investment analyst agent that can research stocks, analyze market data, and provide investment insights.
Prerequisites
- Node.js 18+
- Python 3.12+
- Google Makersuite API Key (for the ADK agent) (see https://makersuite.google.com/app/apikey)
- Any of the following package managers:
Getting Started
- Install dependencies using your preferred package manager:
# Using npm (default)
npm install
# Using pnpm
pnpm install
# Using yarn
yarn install
# Using bun
bun install
Note: This will automatically setup a
.venv(virtual environment) inside theagentdirectory.To activate the virtual environment manually, you can run:
source agent/.venv/bin/activate
- Set up your Google API key:
export GOOGLE_API_KEY="your-google-api-key-here"
- Start the development server:
# Using npm (default)
npm run dev
# Using pnpm
pnpm dev
# Using yarn
yarn dev
# Using bun
bun run dev
This will start both the UI and agent servers concurrently.

The main UI component is in src/app/page.tsx. You can:

Troubleshooting
Agent Connection Issues
If you see "I'm having trouble connecting to my tools", make sure:
- The ADK agent is running on port 8000
- Your Google API key is set correctly
- Both servers started successfully
Python Dependencies
If you encounter Python import errors:
cd agent
pip install -r requirements.txt
