Add the runtime primitives `ɵɵboundaryCreate` and `ɵɵboundaryUpdate` to
the core instructions, which handle synchronous view destruction and
provide the `ON_ERROR` interceptor hooks.
Also include the initial compiler AST representations for the new syntax
including the Lexer tokenization and HTML Parser integration. This lays
the foundational structure for `@boundary` prior to code generation.

PR Close#70463
`findConnectedBlocks` scans siblings after an `@if` to collect connected
`@else`/`@else if` blocks. Whitespace-only text nodes encountered during
the scan were eagerly added to `processedNodes`, marking them as "do not
emit", before confirming whether a connected block actually followed.
By the time `findConnectedBlocks` runs, `WhitespaceVisitor` has already
converted `&ngsp;` (and ` `) into a plain space character, making
them indistinguishable from insignificant whitespace via `.trim().length`.
When the next sibling was a second, unrelated `@if` instead of `@else`,
the scan stopped but the text node was already silently dropped.
Fix by deferring the `processedNodes` insertion into a pending buffer and
only committing those nodes once a connected block is confirmed to follow.
Fixes#55791
Add `@content(propName)` blocks for passing template content to foreign
component properties by name. Previously, only a single set of direct children
could be passed to a foreign component via the default `children` property.
With this change, developers can project distinct template content to multiple
specific properties on the foreign component:
```html
<FancyButton [label]="title">
@content(icon) {
<span>Icon</span>
}
@content(description) {
<span>Description text</span>
}
<span>Other children</span>
</FancyButton>
```
Specifically:
- Add support to the HTML lexer for `@content` blocks.
- Introduce `ContentBlock` AST node to represent `@content` blocks.
- Implement validation ensuring `@content` blocks have exactly one parameter
representing a valid JS identifier.
- Throw an error during ingestion if a `@content` block is placed anywhere
other than as a direct child of a foreign component.
- Map `@content` blocks to properties of the props object passed to
`ɵɵforeignComponent`.
- Update compliance and unit tests to cover these changes.
```
Moves the event attribute validation check outside of `ngDevMode` in the `elementAttributeInternal` instruction to ensure that bindings to event attributes like `on*` are always blocked at runtime.
This is to improve consistency and match developer expectations. This syntax was already deprecated a long time ago.
If you want to bind a data attribute, use the `attr.` prefix (which was already supported).
BREAKING CHANGE: data prefixed attribute no-longer bind inputs nor outputs.
The animate instructions were getting applied to the container comment nodes as well as the element nodes. This prevents that on the compiler level.
Similar fix as #63082, but for template attributes. The root cause is the same where we should be using `fullStart` instead of `start` in order to account for whitespaces being skipped.
Fixes#63157.
PR Close#63175
When parsing expressions inside a bound attribute, we offset all of its spans by an `absoluteOffset` in order to get the right spans in the source file. The offset was incorrect when parsing an attribute with leading spaces during the construction of the Ivy AST, because of the combination of:
1. We were setting the offset by looking at `valueSpan.start`.
2. The Ivy parser sets `leadingTriviaChars: [' ', '\n']` which means that spaces and new lines will be ignored in the `sourceSpan.start`.
These changes resolve the issue by using `valueSpan.fullStart` which includes the leading spaces.
Follow-up from https://github.com/angular/angular/pull/61240#discussion_r2084445328. Adds a `isSelfClosing` property on element-like AST nodes so consumers can easily determine if it's self-closing, rather than having to look at the spans. This is useful for migrations and in the language service.
Adds the follow validations to the selectorless template parsing:
* Local references with values are not allowed (e.g. `#foo="bar"`).
* Multiple local references with the same on a component or directive are not allowed.
`TemplateDefinitionBuilder` is the legacy template compiler, and was replaced by Template Pipeline as the default in v17.3.
This PR attempts to delete `TemplateDefinitionBuilder`, `ExpressionConverter`, and various helpers (i18n context, style builder, property visitors, etc).
Consider this a first pass: a lot of code has not yet been deleted (e.g. old TDB-specific test cases), and I'm sure I have missed additional helper code.
PR Close#54757
Currently the listener side two-way listeners are parsed by appending `=$event` to the raw expression. This is problematic, because:
1. It can interfere with other expressions (see #37809).
2. It can lead to confusing error messages because users will see code that they didn't write.
3. It doesn't allow us to further manipulate the expression.
These changes remove the logic that appends `=$event` to resolve the issue. There's also some new logic that checks the expression after it has been parsed to ensure that the result is an assignable expression.
Subsequent commits will update the code that emits the expression to add back the `$event` assignment where it's needed.
PR Close#54154
During the template parsing stage two-way bindings are split up into a property and event binding. All the downstream code treats these binding the same as their one-way equivalents. For some future work we'll have to distinguish between the two so these changes update the `BoundElementProperty.type` and `ParsedEvent.type` to include a `TwoWay` type. All existing call-sites have been updated to treat `TwoWay` the same as `Property`/`Regular`, but more specialized logic will be added in the future.
PR Close#54065
Previously, autocompletions were not available in two main cases. We correct them.
1. Autocompletions immediately after `@` were usually not working, for example `foo @|`. We fix this by causing the lexer to not consider the `@` part of the text node.
2. Autocompletions such as `@\nfoo`, where a newline follows a bare `@`, were not working because the language service visitor considered us inside the subsequent text node. We fix this by adding a block name span for the block keyword, and special-case whether we are completing inside the name span. If we are, we don't continue to the following text node.
Adds the logic to create `defer`-specific AST nodes from the generic HTML `BlockGroup` and `Block`. The logic for parsing the triggers will be in the next commit.
PR Close#51050
⚠️Disclaimer⚠️ this PR implements syntax that is still in an open RFC. It will be adjusted once the RFC is closed.
These changes implement the `BlockGroup` and `Block` AST nodes that will then be used to generate instructions based on the new syntax. A `BlockGroup` is a container for `Block` instances. The first block of a block is always implicit and required while any subsequent blocks are optional.
PR Close#50953
When parsing interpolations, the input string is _decoded_ from what was
in the orginal template. This means that we cannot soley rely on the input
string to compute source spans because it does not necessarily reflect
the exact content of the original template. Specifically, when there is
an HTML entity (i.e. ` `), this will show up in its decoded form
when processing the interpolation (' '). We need to compute offsets
using the original _encoded_ string.
Note that this problem only surfaces in the splitting of interpolations.
The spans to this point have already been tracked accurately. For
example, given the template ` <div></div>`, the source span for the
`div` is already correctly determined to be 6. Only when we encounter
interpolations with many parts do we run into situations where we need
to compute new spans for the individual parts of the interpolation.
PR Close#44811
For two-way-bindings that use the banana-in-a-box syntax, the compiler
synthesizes an event assignment expression from the primary expression.
It is valid for the primary expression to be terminated by the non-null
operator, however naive string substitution is used for the synthesized
expression, such that the `!` would immediately precede the `=` token,
resulting in the valid `!=` operator token. The expression would still
parse correctly but it doesn't implement the proper semantics, resulting
in incorrect runtime behavior.
Changing the expression substitution to force a space between the
primary expression and the assignment avoids this mistake, but it
uncovers a new issue. The grammar does not allow for the LHS of an
assignment to be the non-null operator, so the synthesized expression
would fail to parse. To alleviate this, the synthesized expression is
parsed with a special parser flag to allow for this syntax.
PR Close#37809
An `ng-template` with an inline template (i.e. has a structural
directive) would previously not get an `undefined` `tagName` because the
logic assumed the element would be `t.Element` or `t.Content` and read
the tag name from the `name` property. For a `t.Template`, this exists
instead on the `t.tagName`. The final result would be an `tagName` of `undefined`
for the parent `t.Template`, causing failures in the indexer downstream.
This `undefined` value is actually expected in the renderer code, even
though the type does not specify this possibility. This change updates
the type of `tagName` to be `string|null` and explicitly handles the
case where there is a structural directive on an `ng-template`. You can
see how the two are differentiated in the compliance code that was
modified in this commit.
Similar to #39613, #39609, and #38898, we should store the `keySpan` for
Reference nodes so that we can accurately map from a template node to a
span in the original file. This is most notably an issue at the moment
for directive references `#ref="exportAs"`. The current behavior for the
language service when requesting information for the reference
is that it will return a text span that results in
highlighting the entire source when it should only highlight "ref" (test
added for this case as well).
PR Close#39616
Though we currently have the knowledge of where the `key` for an
event binding appears during parsing, we do not propagate this
information to the output AST. This means that once we produce the
template AST, we have no way of mapping a template position to the key
span alone. The best we can currently do is map back to the
`sourceSpan`. This presents problems downstream, specifically for the
language service, where we cannot provide correct information about a
position in a template because the AST is not granular enough.
This is essentially identical to the change from #38898, but for event
bindings rather than input bindings.
The lexer is able to skip leading trivia in the `start` location of tokens.
This makes the source-span more friendly since things like elements
appear to begin at the start of the opening tag, rather than at the
start of any leading whitespace, which could include newlines.
But some tooling requires the full source-span to be available, such
as when tokenizing a text span into an Angular expression.
This commit simply adds the `fullStart` location to the `ParseSourceSpan`
class, and ensures that places where such spans are cloned, this
property flows through too.
PR Close#39486
To support recovery of malformed binding property names like `([a)`,
`[a`, or `()`, the binding parser needs to be more permissive w.r.t. the
kinds of bindings it can detect. This is difficult to do maintainably
with a regex, but is trivial with a "hand-rolled" string parser. This
commit refactors render3's binding attribute parsing to use this method
for multi-delimited bindings (namely via the `()`, `[]`, and `[()]`)
syntax, making the way recovery of malformed bindings in a future patch.
Note that we can keep using a regex for prefix-only binding syntax
(e.g. `bind-`, `ref-`) because validation of the binding is complete
once we have matched the prefix, and the only thing left to do is check
that the binding identifier is non-empty, which is trivial.
