PR Close#51423
DEPRECATED: NgProbeToken
The `NgProbeToken` is not used internally since the transition from View Engine to Ivy. The token has no utility and can be removed from applications and libraries.
PR Close#51396
Phase 2 sample code conversions per instructions in doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QqnVK8Mc0O1gU9ctPrs-JJ42V9_dHCuEttD_01pXh34/edit
**Included**
1. ajs-quick-reference
Minor changes to remove references to NgModule. Converted sample to standalone.
2. architecture
Migrated the code sample. Made minor changes to remove references to NgModule. I explicitly deprecated the `architecture-module.md` page and removed it from the navigation.
4. deprecations / deprecations-guide
Migrated the code sample which required pulling NgModule and Reactive Forms material into a new `deprecated` folder. Made minor changes to clarify when advice was specific to NgModule (see `loadChildren` in particular).
5. displaying-data
Deleted this `displaying-data` sample entirely as there is no need for a sample app just to display a single, vanilla data binding in the deprecated `zone.md` page. Replaced reference in `zone.md` with an inline code snippet.
10. ngcontainer
Converted the code sample. There is no guide page for this sample. It can be displayed in Stackblitz
**Excluded**
3. cli-builder
Code sample is not an app; nothing to convert.
6-9 - related to getting-started and setup.
Waiting until Angular team is ready to proceed.
11. providers
This is in its own commit and PR 51918 because it may not make sense to convert. See that PR for details.
12. routing-with-urlmatcher
No work needed. Already Standalone.
13 schematics-for-libraries
Non-trivial (see doc notes) and Angular may decide to leave as is. Should have own PR.
14 setup
Non-trivial (see doc notes) and Angular may decide to leave as is. Should have own PR.
PR Close#51918
The `NoopAnimationDriver` as static property of `AnimationDriver` prevents it from being removed by tree shaking. This commit deprecates it and exposes the `NoopAnimationDriver` on the public API to replace its usage.
DEPRECATED:
The `AnimationDriver.NOOP` symbol is deprecated, use `NoopAnimationDriver` instead.
PR Close#51843
The `setupTestingRouter` function is a factory function for creating a
new instance of the `Router`. This function is effectively a no-op.
Developers should use `RouterModule.forRoot` or `provideRouter` in tests
instead.
BREAKING CHANGE: The `setupTestingRouter` function has been removed. Use
`RouterModule.forRoot` or `provideRouter` to setup the `Router` for
tests instead.
PR Close#51826
The `malformedUriErrorHandler` is used as a recovery mechanism for when the `UrlSerializer`
throws an error when parsing a URL string. If custom error handling is
desired for this, it should instead be done inside the
`UrlSerializer.parse` method itself. There's no reason to have an entire
feature option built around what can otherwise just be `try...catch`.
BREAKING CHANGE: `malformedUriErrorHandler` is no longer available in
the `RouterModule.forRoot` options. URL parsing errors should instead be
handled in the `UrlSerializer.parse` method.
PR Close#51745
This commit removes the `urlHandlingStrategy` from the public Router's API
BREAKING CHANGE:
`urlHandlingStrategy` has been removed from the Router public API.
This should instead be configured through the provideRouter or RouterModule.forRoot APIs.
PR Close#51631
This commit removes deprecated properties on the Router. These are meant
to be configured through DI and not meant to be changed during runtime.
BREAKING CHANGE: The following Router properties have been removed from
the public API:
- canceledNavigationResolution
- paramsInheritanceStrategy
- titleStrategy
- urlUpdateStrategy
- malformedUriErrorHandler
These should instead be configured through the `provideRouter` or
`RouterModule.forRoot` APIs.
PR Close#51502
Relative links have 2 advantages :
* They're not marked as external links
* When on a specific doc version, the link point to the same version.
PR Close#50080
Using `@angular/platform-browser-dynamic` is no longer required for JIT scenarios with Ivy. Instead `@angular/compiler` should be imported instead.
This change is part of the effort to reduce the server bundles sizes, which is needed to support cloud workers.
BREAKING CHANGE:
Users that are using SSR with JIT mode will now need to add `import to @angular/compiler` before bootstrapping the application.
**NOTE:** this does not effect users using the Angular CLI.
PR Close#50064
The `TransferState` class was updated in v14 in a way that the `BrowserTransferStateModule` was no longer required. The `BrowserTransferStateModule` was deprecated in v14.1 and it's currently empty. This commit removes the `BrowserTransferStateModule`.
BREAKING CHANGE: The deprecated `BrowserTransferStateModule` was removed, since it's no longer needed. The `TransferState` class can be injected without providing the module. The `BrowserTransferStateModule` was empty starting from v14 and you can just remove the reference to that module from your applications.
PR Close#49718
The `ReflectiveInjector` symbol has been deprecated in v5 (11 major versions ago). This commit removes ReflectiveInjector and related symbols.
BREAKING CHANGE: The `ReflectiveInjector` and related symbols were removed. Please update the code to avoid references to the `ReflectiveInjector` symbol. Use `Injector.create` as a replacement to create an injector instead.
PR Close#48103
`RouterTestingModule` is not needed as of v16. Instead, TestBed
automatically provides `MockPlatformLocation` in order to help test
navigations in the application. The location mocks in the
RouterTestingModule aren't necessary anymore.
There doesn't appear to be any real documentation around
`RouterTestingModule` other than the API docs.
PR Close#49427
This commits adds `makeStateKey`, `StateKey` and `TransferState` methods in `@angular/core` as public API and deprecated the same exported symbols in `@angular/platform-browser`.
DEPRECATED: `makeStateKey`, `StateKey` and `TransferState` exports have been moved from `@angular/platform-browser` to `@angular/core`. Please update the imports.
```diff
- import {makeStateKey, StateKey, TransferState} from '@angular/platform-browser';
+ import {makeStateKey, StateKey, TransferState} from '@angular/core';
```
PR Close#49563
These two options where created for a feature which was never completed. https://github.com/angular/universal/pull/1860
Eventually these options should be added to `withTransferCache` HTTP logic.
DEPRECATED: `PlatformConfig.baseUrl` and `PlatformConfig.useAbsoluteUrl` platform-server config options are deprecated as these were not used.
PR Close#49546
The `moduleId` directive field does not have any effect as of Ivy. In
View Engine it was used for resolving template and styles relative
to the component source location- but ultimately this is not needed
as the Angular compiler knows the source file location at build time,
and at runtime never even consulted `moduleId`. An XHR is always issue
using the extact specified URL.
For Angular CLI users, relative URLs in JIT are still possible because
the CLI has a TS transform that will replace the references with actual
Webpack imports.
`moduleId` does not seem worth keeping in the future, as it's not used
currently, and even if we would consider supporting relative JIT resource
URLs through it, it would be deeply coupled to CommonJS `module.id`.
DEPRECATED: The `@Directive`/`@Component` `moduleId` property is now
deprecated. It did not have any effect for multiple major versions and
will be removed in v17.
PR Close#49496
`entryComponents` have been deprecated since version 9, because with Ivy they weren't necessary. These changes remove any remaining references.
BREAKING CHANGE:
* `entryComponents` has been deleted from the `@NgModule` and `@Component` public APIs. Any usages can be removed since they weren't doing anyting.
* `ANALYZE_FOR_ENTRY_COMPONENTS` injection token has been deleted. Any references can be removed.
PR Close#49484
This commit deprecated ` BrowserModule.withServerTransition` instead `APP_ID` should be used instead to configure the app id.
DEPRECATED: `BrowserModule.withServerTransition` has been deprecated. `APP_ID` should be used instead to set the application ID.
NB: Unless, you render multiple Angular applications on the same page, setting an application ID is not necessary.
Before:
```ts
imports: [
BrowserModule.withServerTransition({ appId: 'serverApp' }),
...
]
```
After:
```ts
imports: [
BrowserModule,
{ provide: APP_ID, useValue: 'serverApp' },
...
],
```
PR Close#49422
With the introduction of `EnvironmentInjector`, we added an operation to run
a function with access to `inject` tokens from that injector. This operation
only worked for `EnvironmentInjector`s and not for element/node injectors.
This commit deprecates `EnvironmentInjector.runInContext` in favor of a
standalone API `runInInjectionContext`, which supports any type of injector.
DEPRECATED: `EnvironmentInjector.runInContext` is now deprecated, with
`runInInjectionContext` functioning as a direct replacement:
```typescript
// Previous method version (deprecated):
envInjector.runInContext(fn);
// New standalone function:
runInInjectionContext(envInjector, fn);
```
PR Close#49396
The deprecated `XhrFactory` export from `@angular/common/http` has been removed.
BREAKING CHANGE:
Deprecated `XhrFactory` export from `@angular/common/http` has been removed. Use `XhrFactory` from `@angular/common` instead.
PR Close#49251
The deprecated `renderModuleFactory` has been removed as it is no longer necessary with Ivy.
BREAKING CHANGE: `renderModuleFactory` has been removed. Use `renderModule` instead.
PR Close#49247
This commit updates the docs of the functional guards and resolvers to improve the migration
experience when moving away from class-based equivalents.
PR Close#48873
Class and `InjectionToken`-based guards and resolvers are not as configurable,
are less re-usable, require more boilerplate, cannot be defined inline with the route,
and require more in-depth knowledge of Angular features (`Injectable`/providers).
In short, they're less powerful and more cumbersome.
In addition, continued support increases the API surface which in turn increases
bundle size, code complexity, the learning curve and API surface to teach,
maintenance cost, and cognitive load (needing to grok several different types
of information in a single place).
Lastly, supporting only the `CanXFn` types for guards and `ResolveFn` type
for resolvers in the `Route` interface will enable better code
completion and integration with TypeScript. For example, when writing an
inline functional resolver today, the function is typed as `any` and
does not provide completions for the `ResolveFn` parameters. By
restricting the type to only `ResolveFn`, in the example below
TypeScript would be able to correctly identify the `route` parameter as
`ActivatedRouteSnapshot` and when authoring the inline route, the
language service would be able to autocomplete the function parameters.
```
const userRoute: Route = {
path: 'user/:id',
resolve: {
"user": (route) => inject(UserService).getUser(route.params['id']);
}
};
```
Importantly, this deprecation only affects the support for class and
`InjectionToken` guards at the `Route` definition. `Injectable` classes
and `InjectionToken` providers are _not_ being deprecated in the general
sense. Functional guards are robust enough to even support the existing
class-based guards through a transform:
```
function mapToCanMatch(providers: Array<Type<{canMatch: CanMatchFn}>>): CanMatchFn[] {
return providers.map(provider => (...params) => inject(provider).canMatch(...params));
}
const route = {
path: 'admin',
canMatch: mapToCanMatch([AdminGuard]),
};
```
With regards to tests, because of the ability to map `Injectable`
classes to guard functions as outlined above, nothing _needs_ to change
if projects prefer testing guards the way they do today. Functional
guards can also be written in a way that's either testable with
`runInContext` or by passing mock implementations of dependencies.
For example:
```
export function myGuardWithMockableDeps(
dep1 = inject(MyService),
dep2 = inject(MyService2),
dep3 = inject(MyService3),
) { }
const route = {
path: 'admin',
canActivate: [() => myGuardWithMockableDeps()]
}
// test file
const guardResultWithMockDeps = myGuardWithMockableDeps(mockService1, mockService2, mockService3);
const guardResultWithRealDeps = TestBed.inject(EnvironmentInjector).runInContext(myGuardWithMockableDeps);
```
DEPRECATED: Class and `InjectionToken` guards and resolvers are
deprecated. Instead, write guards as plain JavaScript functions and
inject dependencies with `inject` from `@angular/core`.
PR Close#47924
`errorHandler` and `malformedUriErrorHandler` were already deprecated in
the Router class public API. This change updates the deprecation to
extend to `RouterModule.forRoot` configuration options.
PR Close#48551
`withNavigationErrorHandler` is a close replacement for the
`RouterModule.forRoot.errorHandler` / `Router.errorHandler`.
It provides a quick, short way for users to define a function to handle
`NavigationError` events.
PR Close#48551
As mentioned in #46021, `canMatch` guards can replace `canLoad`. There
are slight differences between the two but the purpose of preventing
user access to feature modules is still achievable. There are several
reasons keeping `CanLoad` around is detrimental to the API surface:
* Lazy loading should not be an architectural feature of an application. It's an
optimization you do for code size. That is, there should not be an architectural
feature in the router to directly specifically control whether to lazy load something or
not based on conditions such as authentication. This slightly
different from the `canMatch` guard: the guard controls whether
you can use the route at all and as a side-effect, whether we download the code.
`CanLoad` only specified whether the code should be downloaded so `canMatch` is
more powerful and more appropriate.
* The naming of `CanLoad` will be potentially misunderstood for the `loadComponent` feature.
Because it applies to `loadChildren`, it feels reasonable to think that it will
also apply to `loadComponent`. This isn’t the case: since we don't need
to load the component until right before activation, we defer the
loading until all guards/resolvers have run.
* Unnecessary API surface bloat where two features (CanMatch and CanLoad) do
essentially the same thing. This affects code size for supporting two
nearly identical features as well as the learning and teaching journey
for them both.
* `CanLoad` guards have the downside of _only_ being run once to prevent
loading child routes. Once that passes and children are loaded, the
guard never runs again. As a result, developers need to always provide
_both_ canLoad and a canActivate in case the answer to the guard flips
back to `false`. This is not the case for `canMatch`, which will run
on every navigation.
DEPRECATED: CanLoad guards in the Router are deprecated. Use CanMatch
instead.
PR Close#48180
None of the public properties of the `Router` are meant to be writeable.
They should all be configured using other methods, all of which have been
documented.
DEPRECATED: router writable properties
The following strategies are meant to be configured by registering the
application strategy in DI via the `providers` in the root `NgModule` or
`bootstrapApplication`:
* `routeReuseStrategy`
* `titleStrategy`
* `urlHandlingStrategy`
The following options are meant to be configured using the options
available in `RouterModule.forRoot` or `provideRouter`.
* `onSameUrlNavigation`
* `paramsInheritanceStrategy`
* `urlUpdateStrategy`
* `canceledNavigationResolution`
The following options are available in `RouterModule.forRoot` but not
available in `provideRouter`:
* `malformedUriErrorHandler` - This was found to not be used anywhere
internally.
* `errorHandler` - Developers can instead subscribe to `Router.events`
and filter for `NavigationError`.
PR Close#48006
The `setupTestingRouter` function is not necessary. The `Router` can be fully
initialized through the DI configuration in the same way as it is in
production. Tests should use `provideRouter` or `RouterTestingModule`.
PR Close#48008
Due to being only 1 letter away from `provideRouter`, it is quite
possible that developers may accidentally use `provideRoutes` rather
than `provideRouter` in the `boostrapApplication` function. This change
will warn developers when `provideRoutes` is used without the `Router`.
PR Close#47896
This function is too similar in name to the new `provideRouter` and can
lead to misconfiguring the router. The function itself is just a small
wrapper around `{provide: ROUTES, multi: true, useValue: routes}`. It is
rarely necessary to provide routes in this way. The harm `provideRoutes`
will cause due to being only 1 letter away from `provideRouter` vastly
outweighs the benefit of a slightly shorter provider.
PR Close#47896
There are no new CLI related deprecations for v15. However, multiple
features listed in the deprecation guide have since been removed and
are now also removed from the relevant sections of the guide.
PR Close#47885
This commit introduces a new `DATE_PIPE_DEFAULT_OPTIONS` token, which
can be used to configure default DatePipe options, such as date
format and timezone.
DEPRECATED:
The `DATE_PIPE_DEFAULT_TIMEZONE` token is now deprecated in favor
of the `DATE_PIPE_DEFAULT_OPTIONS` token, which accepts an object
as a value and the timezone can be defined as a field (called `timezone`)
on that object.
PR Close#47157
This commit updates the `RouterLink` to extend the selector to also include `<a>` and `<area>` elements, which were previously matched by the `RouterLinkWithHref` directive. The code of the directives was merged together (since there was a lot of duplication) and this commit finalizes the merge. The `RouterLinkWithHref` becomes an alias of the `RouterLink` directive.
Now there is no need to import and use the `RouterLinkWithHref` class, the `RouterLink` directive will match any element that has the `routerLink` attribute.
DEPRECATED:
The `RouterLinkWithHref` directive is deprecated, use the `RouterLink` directive instead. The `RouterLink` contains the code from the `RouterLinkWithHref` to handle elements with `href` attributes.
PR Close#47630
This commit deprecates the above two forms of `providedIn`.
DEPRECATED:
- The ability to pass an `NgModule` to the `providedIn` option for
`@Injectable` and `InjectionToken` is now deprecated.
`providedIn: NgModule` was intended to be a tree-shakable alternative to
NgModule providers. It does not have wide usage, and in most cases is used
incorrectly, in circumstances where `providedIn: 'root'` should be
preferred. If providers should truly be scoped to a specific NgModule, use
`NgModule.providers` instead.
- The ability to set `providedIn: 'any'` for an `@Injectable` or
`InjectionToken` is now deprecated.
`providedIn: 'any'` is an option with confusing semantics and is almost
never used apart from a handful of esoteric cases internal to the framework.
PR Close#47616
