Although there are several pages, only `service-worker-getting-started.md` has an example.
That example code was migrated.
Worked around the few references to NgModule.
Other changes as follows:
**Revised "Getting Started"**
The original service worker example page (`service-worker-getting-started.md`) is full of holes! I don’t know how anyone got this working just by following this page
- it doesn’t tell you where to get the example (and it isn’t generated by AIO)
- it doesn’t tell you that ng serve doesn’t support service worker apps
- it mentions http-server in passing but not what that is or where to get it.
- several commands tell you to supply the “project-name” but (a) it doesn’t tell you how to find that name and (b) you never actually have to provide a name at all. That includes on the command that gets http-server going.
**Hid section on `ngsw-config` tool**
Hid the discussion of the `ngsw-config` tool in `service-worker-config.md` because
(a) the command invoke it didn't seem to work and (b) it referenced `<project-name>`
without explaining what that is or where to find it.
Left the hidden text in the page in case someone wants to do something about this.
Meanwhile, you seem to be able to edit the `ngsw-config.json` and then rebuild.
That should suffice.
**Disabled E2E**
The AIO CI will no longer attempt to run the (thin) E2E tests.
These tests could lightly test the app with the dev server but couldn't test the Service Worker aspects; that would require launching the app with something other than `ng serve` and the AIO CI is not set up for that.
The existing tests appeared to pass when run locally with the dev server.
However, only one of them actually ran; test runner reported.
"There were tests whose specified size is too big."
Decided to bypass E2E testing of this project for now.
PR Close#51687
Previously, the criteria for determining if a request was a
[navigation request][1] did not account for the request method. This
incorrectly identified HTML form submit POST requests as navigation
requests and served `index.html` instead of passing them through to the
server, thus breaking the form submission.
This commit fixes this by ensuring that only GET requests are considered
navigation requests.
> **Note**
> HTML forms with their method set to `GET` will still be affected by
> the issue. This is not a big concern, because using `GET` for form
> submission is quite uncommon and generally discouraged (due to
> limitations and security considerations).

The purpose of the changes is to clean all markdown to match a single pedantic style.
* To ensure all changes in style are properly separated.
* To ensure all styled content aligns to nearest 4-character-tab.
* To ensure all code blocks use the Angular `<code-example>` or `<code-tab>` elements.
* To ensure all markdown exists outside of html tags.
* To ensure all images use the Angular style for `<img>` elements.
* To ensure that all smart punctuation is replaced or removed.
```text
’, ’, “, ”, –, —, …
```
* To ensure all content does not conflict with the following reserved characters.
```text
@, $, *, &, #, |, <, >,
```
* To ensure all content displays using html entities.
The following changes were made to files in the following directory.
```text
aio/content
```
The target files were markdown files.
The list of excluded files:
```text
.browserslistrc, .css, .conf, .editorconfig, .gitignore, .html, .js, .json, .sh, .svg, .ts, .txt, .xlf,
Add a new option for configuring data-groups, `cacheOpaqueResponses`,
that determines whether opaque responses are cached or not. This allows
greater flexibility in configuring the behavior of data-groups, while
still keeping the current defaults as fallbacks.
Fixes#44246
PR Close#44723
Update the "Service worker configuration" guide to mention the different
caching behaviors used for opaque responses based on the data-group's
configured strategy.
In CLI version 12, we introduced the concept of production builds by default.
With this change we update the documentation to reflect the changes.
This commit introduces a new option for the service worker, called
`navigationRequestStrategy`, which adds the possibility to force the service worker
to always create a network request for navigation requests.
This enables the server redirects while retaining the offline behavior.
The order of asset- and data-groups in `ngsw-config.json` affects how a
request is handled by the ServiceWorker. Previously, this was not
clearly documented.
This commit describes how the order of asset-/data-groups affects
request handling.
There is great workaround for implementing staleWhileRevalidate strategy in service-worker by setting strategy to freshness and timeout to 0u. Documented this in service worker config where all other strategies are documented
Previously it was not possible to provide `CacheQueryOptions` ([MDN](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Cache)) for querying the Cache.
This commit introduces a new parameter called `cacheQueryOptions` for `DataGroup` and `AssetGroup`.
Currently only `ignoreSearch` is supported as `ignoreVary` and `ignoreMethod` would require using
the complete Request object for matching which is not possible with the current implementation.
The globbing is used in the following sections:
- `assetGroups` > `resources` > `files`/`versionedFiles`
- `assetGroups` > `resources` > `urls`
- `dataGroups` > `urls`
- `navigationUrls`
Query params are ignored for `files`/`versionedFiles` and
`navigationUrls`, but they are still taken into account for
`assetGroups`/`dataGroups` `urls`. To avoid a breaking change, `?` is
matched literally for these patterns.
PR Close#24105
Since `versionedFiles` behaves in the exact same way as `files`, there
is no reaason to have both. Users should use `files` instead.
This commit deprecates the property and prints a warning when coming
across an asset-group that uses it. It should be completely removed in
a future version.
Note, it has also been removed from the default `ngsw-config.json`
template in angular/devkit#754.
PR Close#23584
The ServiceWorker will redirect navigation requests that don't match any
`asset` or `data` group to the specified index file. The rules for a
request to be classified as a navigation request are as follows:
1. Its `mode` must be `navigation`.
2. It must accept a `text/html` response.
3. Its URL must match certain criteria (see below).
By default, a navigation request can have any URL except for:
1. URLs containing `__`.
2. URLs to files (i.e. containing a file extension in the last path
segment).
While these rules are fine in many cases, sometimes it is desirable to
configure different rules for the URLs of navigation requests (e.g.
ignore specific URLs and pass them through to the server).
This commit adds support for specifying an optional `navigationUrls`
list in `ngsw-config.json`, which contains URLs or simple globs
(currently only recognizing `!`, `*` and `**`).
Only requests whose URLs match any of the positive URLs/patterns and
none of the negative ones (i.e. URLs/patterns starting with `!`) will be
considered navigation requests (and handled accordingly by the SW).
(This is an alternative implementation to #23025.)
